KWJC 91.9 Kansas City

Silent stations apply for a STA from the FCC. A station can be silent up to a calendar year but must renew the STA at the six month anniversary. Depending on circumstances, the FCC may allow a station to be silent for a longer period if they can prove the situation is beyond their control and that they have been working diligently to resolve any issues. As a general rule after a year of silence, the FCC takes back the authorization.

They submitted an extension of the silent STA.

"PREVIOUSLY STATION KWJC WENT SILENT DUE TO THE LOSS OF ITS PROGRAMMING AGREEMENT. SINCE THEN THE LICENSEE FILED AN APPLICATION TO ASSIGN THE LICENSE. THAT APPLICATION (BALED-20190815AAZ)WAS GRANTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2019. STATION KWJC EXPECTS OPERATIONS WILL RESUME BY THE NEW LICENSEE UPON CLOSING.
ACCORDINGLY WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE REQUESTS AN EXTENSION OF ITS SILENT AUTHORITY."

KWJC submitted an Extension of Consummation on January 23rd. I guess this means the sale is taking a longer time than usual.

Still nothing on 91.9 in Kansas City... They have until June 1st apparently to work out whatever it is that's holding things up. If they don't their license could be canceled apparently. Oh boy!

Update: There was an Extension of Consummation filed on Monday 4/20.

I'm guessing this will take longer than usual because of COVID-19. It's my understanding UMKC is attempting to raise money for the purchase of KWJC, but who knows what wil happen on June 1st - maybe a temporary format to just keep the license active.

I heard KWJC on recently playing classical music for a couple days last week with a KWJC Liberty message every hour. Anyone know where the music was comming from, buyer or seller? It's off the air now again.

KWJC also filed another sale extension and another silent notification. Strangely though I cannot view the STA from last Friday. FCCData says it's a silent notification not an STA? What's the difference between the two?

Since the sale hasn't been completed I assume the classical music was coming from William Jewel College.

From allaccess.com

WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE has closed on the sale of KWJC/LIBERTY, MO to THE CURATORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI for $2 million plus underwriting announcements.

That means the price includes the cash and a number of Underwriter Announcements that have a cash value based on the station's rate card for Underwriting packages.
