KWKH Shreveport

KWKH Shreveport is pounding in to the Chicago area tonight on 1130. Usually here, its a mish-mash of WISN, WBBR and others. Not so tonight - KWKH is totally dominant.

Something might be out of whack with their directional pattern. I remember a poster a few years ago saying KWKH was causing considerable interference to KMOX very close to St. Louis on several nights, which shouldn't happen.

That's a possibility, as I noted that KWKH just doesn't pack the punch it should into a lot of the East Texas area. It's pretty much gone west of Tyler and the last time I was in Dallas the signal was unimpressive.

KWKH has always been a strange signal here in north Alabama. It either comes in like a local, or not at all.

Yes, I was amazed enough to post about it. Heard a country song and thought that perhaps WISN was running C to C AM a little early (as they often play half a song during the segue). Normally, WISN is weak here and fights with others; but once in a while it holds steady but is weak. However, KWKH was - by far - the strongest signal I've picked up on 1130 at night in this area.

I took a look at a map of it's nighttime pattern and it's not consistent with what I was hearing last night. It blasted in with almost no fading over a 20 minute period. So yes, something must be out of whack with their pattern. Maybe they're leaving the daytime pattern on?

Have you checked to see if other stations from that direction are coming in stronger than usual?
The propagation in that direction may be better at this time. Happens occasionally.

I remember KWKH and the NYC 1130 battling it out just S of Roanoke Va on I-81 early one AM last fall with a secondary battle between hartford CTand dallas TX occuring on 1080.

I was driving through western KY yesterday morning maybe 30 minutes before sunrise and heard country on 1130 that was so strong that I presumed it to be a local station, but indeed it was KWKH. Definitely Night Time there & their night pattern shouldn't have been sending much my way.

They must not be observing their night pattern for some reason.

KWKH has also been very strong for the last two nights here in Middle Tennessee. After looking up their nighttime pattern, I was a bit puzzled as to how they were so strong, but I guess this thread explains that!

I haven't DXed AM at this location before, though, so I'm not sure what their signal is normally like for comparison sake.

KWKH must be running ND at night. The question is why? Are they doing it deliberately or do they have pemission due to some other problem?

Have been hearing them in East TN for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes fighting with New York, but most nights as strong as a local.

I am listening to them as we speak here in S.Central Ohio (sports talk about LSU football) signal is rather strong but does fade some then returns strong..
