KWMA/KNOF format flip rundown

Thought I'd give a little format flip rundown as far as the KWMA/KNOF format flip....

A.) KQGO 96.3 is now KWMA Air1 ... RDS is functioning correctly and the on air sound actually sounds pretty good compared to 97.7 K249ED (KTCZ HD2).

B.) KWMA-HD2 previously PraiseLive is now looping a message redirecting listeners to the new 95.3 KNOF... It goes Something like "The format heard for decades on 95.3 KNOF is back... Tell a friend... Post a message on social media"

C.) KQGO/KWMA-HD3 which previously was a very crappy feed of WIXK New Richmond has now moved to iHeart's KEEY-HD3... I am assuming KEEY HD3 is what K294AM is relaying now

D) KZGO 95.3 is being leased out to the owners of "PraiseLive" and is now airing that... Audio is pretty bad quality , guessing this will be fixed soon

Here's the full loop being played on KMWA-HD2. It's about 3 minutes long, but it's just the same message repeated with slightly different wording. Apologies for the slightly janky audio towards the end, I don't get a great HD signal where I live.

(Trying SoundCloud for uploading audio here for the first time. If that doesn't work, the ZIP file I uploaded is the same thing.)

K221ES 92.1 FM Albertville, MN has flipped from Air1 to K-Love according to their station lists. I could also see the Air1 97.7 translator K249ED north of Minneapolis also changing to K-Love but we will see.

A few more updates:

KMWA 96.3 HD1 is Air 1, HD2 is K-Love, HD3 is Boost Radio. The HD lineup for KMWA is similar to WCKL in Chicago, minus the HD4 Spanish Christian format. HD signal and audio quality are fairly good, and seem better than former KQGO.

K260BA 99.9FM went silent for a few days along with all HD stations on KFXN during June. As of June 10, 99.9FM was back, relaying KMWA HD2.

W225AP 92.9 still relays KMWA HD3.

Neither K260BA or W225AP appear in FCC queries. So, I assume they are re-licensing these stations.

No other station has picked up the Alternative format at this time.

Thanks for the update. I checked the K-Love station list and they list K-Love on KMWA HD3, not HD2.

The Boost website says Boost is on KMWA HD2, not HD3. Either something is in flux or they have it wrong.

I had seen a bandscan and wondered why there was no HD on KFXN.

Both K260BA and W225AP appear in FM Queries so I wonder why you did not see them.

Interesting. I have to assume this is temporary (equipment failure, perhaps?) for 100.3, as they also use the HD to "feed" 103.5. I noticed 103.5 is still on relaying the programming heard on 1130, but I am not sure where they are sourcing the feed from (sounds better than AM quality). None of the other HD subchannels for IHM have "flipped" to KTLK audio.

I just checked, and I think I made a mistake in a previous post. Here's my correction:

KMWA 96.3 HD1 is Air 1, HD2 is Boost Radio, HD3 is K-Love.

Interesting, KLOVE's station ID announcement on 99.9 FM and KMWA HD3 at the top of the hour says "KLOV Winchester" referring to 89.3 in Winchester Oregon. Boost Radio's station ID announcement is correct "92.9 FM and KMWA HD2 Edina, Minneapolis, St. Paul." I've not heard Air 1's station ID announcement.

Also noteworthy, 92.9 RDS is operational, but 99.9 RDS is not operational. On the flip side KMWA HD1 and HD3 display artist information, but HD2 just says "Boost."

Overall, seems like KLove is still working on things.

As of date, 100.3 HD is off their air. Analog only. Very old school! Haha. I suspect they will come back with something.

KNOF 95.3FM sound quality is back to normal.

Thanks for the update! This is making me think even more that 100.3 had equipment failure, and EMF was left to scramble to find a replacement feed for 99.9 quickly.

That said, I am not sure why IHM still has EMF stations on 2 HD channels now that EMF has a full power station in Minneapolis, and I wonder if EMF will make the KLOVE move to HD3 permanent. I understand that IHM has a broader agreement with EMF, and perhaps they must continue to air programming to keep operating the EMF translators such as 96.7, 102.5, etc.

KFAN HD is back as of 6/20. HD 2 is the KTLK relay. HD 3 is K Love (but the audio quality is very poor).

KMWA HD 3 is also K Love, with much better audio quality and artist information.

99.9's situation was interesting. KMWA HD3 wasn't on until later June or July (IIRC) with K-Love, and 100.3 HD was off before that. 99.9 was on for at least a week after 100.3 HD3 went off, and then they claimed they had to go off because 100.3 HD was off. It makes no sense why it took them that long to finally say/ and or do something about it. It also reveals that 99.9 most likely is a web feed or STL feed not a relay of 100.3 HD3, granted most translators do do this.

What is on K249ED 97.7 and KTCZ 97.1 HD2 now? They were taken off the Air1 station listing.

Didn't notice that, thanks for mentioning it! Just checked and K249ED-FM on 97.7 appears to be looping a ~minute long message with the KTCZ-HD2 ID and saying Air1 is moving to 96.3. They also say that KLove is "coming soon" to 97.7. Looks like we'll be getting another KLove station there. Here's a recording of the message:

Over on KTCZ-HD2, unsurprisingly, they're also playing the same looping message. Here's all the channels on KTCZ's HD:

Thank you very much for the update and audio. So K-Love will be coming soon to the 97.7 translator north of Minneapolis. I had guessed that 97.7 would flip to K-Love when 96.3 flipped to Air1 because of the overlapping signals. I am only surprised it took most of 2021 for it to happen. K-Love will likely remain on KFXN 100.3 HD3 to feed their 99.9 translator in downtown Minneapolis and 97.7. But I am sure EMF will drop the Air1 signal on KTCZ 97.1 HD2 because it will not be needed anymore.

The 100.3 HD3 feed isn't needed anymore either since 96.3 HD3 airs K-Love (and last I checked it sounded better than 100.3). That said, 100.3/97.1 have a much bigger signal than 96.3, so I could see the interest in keeping the signals, but I am not sure what the agreement with iHeart is (does EMF pay or is it barter in exchange for being able to use the translators iHeart doesn't own?)

Just took a look (listen?) again at 97.7. Looks like it's since flipped to K-LOVE.

K-LOVE is also on KTCZ-HD2 now, but nobody has bothered to update the name of it there...

(PS the analog station sounds kinda crappy because there's some tight ~10 kHz filtering being put on the L-R difference...but not the L+R signal? weird...)
