KWMT On High Power Last Night

Just saw this thread - this explains the faint country music I was hearing in Houston on 540 yesterday - during the DAY! I was expecting KDFT, but instead of Spanish I had country music, but couldn't get an ID.

Did KWMT stay on high power all night, seems like they faded pretty quickly (though not instantly) when I was listening around 10 last night.

Updating my previous post....

I flipped on 540 last night at around 10pm CST with WAUK nulled, and it was pretty much "let the blasting begin".  They pretty much were obliterating CBK.  With the radio (DX 375) aimed towards Milwaukee, WAUK re-emerged, but KWMT was still in there with it.

Repeated the process about 90 minutes before sunrise with pretty much the same results.  Ironically, this time, I caught a promo talking about how KWMT could be heard anywhere in the state.  Sure....especially when they don't power down at sunset!

How odd, because I could get them at all at 8:00 CST last night. And, believe me, there would be no way to miss country music on that frequency. No, there was the combination of a game on WAUK and a CBC correspondent on CBK talking about how pissed off average people are in Yemen after their military made a strike on a supposed nest of terrorists.

I'll try again tonight - perhaps with different results.

KWMT is on this evening again with Daytime power with a football game as of 6 p.m. CT...should we not tell them yet that they're on Daytime power at night, so that more DXer's can log them? [This seems a bit amusing that no one has figured out why suddenly reception of KWMT is so great all night long all over most of Iowa]

We Love Our Country AM 540 KWMT at 8:07PM EST 30 miles south of Indy...sounds like they still aren't on top of it!

Of our crew back on Long Island, I was the first to've heard KWMT, a loud sunset catch, iIrc before total darkness. It was as loud as the much closer WFIL 560. KWMT would come in after that faithfully, some times with KNOE at sunset (which was nowhere near as loud). Back then KWMT was strictly a daytimer.

At that spot on the dial as well, I do remember hearing WLIX Islip on a car radio on the Delaware Memorial Bridge. That wasn't even water path, but a good poke for a 250 watter.

I didn't hear them at all a couple of hours before sunrise this morning....unlike yesterday. This morning, it was strictly WAUK and CBK. Is the party over?

I've never "officially" heard WAUK. Would that have been the station with the play by play I heard along with KWMT? Also heard someone with Fox News. This was Dayton OH

Classic country with a nice S9 signal in south central Indiana...anyone care to speculate how long KWMT will stay on day power at night?

WAUK is a regular visitor at night here in Cincinnati. Not a strong signal, but listenable, with fading. They announce 540 ESPN.

Was able to do a little DXing tonight and around 8:10PM found KWMT with a fairly strong signal that soon faded, yielding to a weak WAUK. I didn't stay on frequency long enough for KWMT to come back strong. Nice to again hear a little music from an Iowa station again. KIOA (940) in Des Moines was a very good Top 40 station back when humans had receeding foreheads, were covered with hair, and walked on all fours.

WAUK is ESPN. WAUK does have some local PBP at times, but not last night, it was regular programming, as in a call-in show. KWMT was broadcasting a football game last night, AFAIK. KWMT is a Fox News Radio affiliate. They've had a nice signal in the daytime here in the null of WAUK in No. Illinois on my Sony ICF-SW7600GR.

Obviously KWMT's engineers nor staff must not listen to their own signal all that much.... "hmmm, why is 172 watts coming in so well 50 miles out?" (;> Their listeners must have been enjoying the improved reception lately!

8:50 PM EST here Saturday. I'm getting some Oldies countdown most readably out of a jumble of stations. 'Chapel Of Love' was #60, or 50, followed by 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'.
There's also some sports event under it, and what might have been Disney. The frequency sounds like 1400. Maybe something will sirface at 9 PM

Oldies might be WGOP (MD) or WKFN (TN) Check radio-locator.com advanced search
Sports might be WAUK. Disney is likely to be WWCS, Canonsburg (Pittsburgh) area. No one else appears to be Sports or Disney on 540 from the lists I have seen online. WWCS has a CP for daytime only. No idea if they are on their CP or are authorized with new facilities. Why would a station give up a 500 watt night signal that has fairly decent coverage? - at least it appears so on the radio-locator map. And KWMT is on again tonight playing Country music with daytime power as of 8:40 p.m. CT!

That entry on Radio-Locator is misleading. The change involved a decrease in their daytime power from 5 to 3.8kW; their nighttime operation with 500 watts wasn't affected.

Isn't WDOK sports? Seems I've heard them on high power late

WDAK is news/talk.

monday 12/28 and tuesday 12/29, KWMT loud and clear in east tn. with positive ID.
