KWNK 670 Simi Valley First Sign On Broadcast Audio

I have posted the first ever sign on broadcast of KWNK 670 Simi Valley, It was recorded in Westlake Village, at the intersection of Hampshire Rd. & Westlake Blvd, the station in the background is KBOI Boise, Idaho. Very rare audio was found in a friends audio tape collection in Fernley Nv. Besides KBOI being in the background, the recording is of good quality.

I recorded that KWNK sign-on using my Panasonic RF-2200 radio, which is still working fine to this date.

I tried to null out KBOI, but it was next to impossible since I was located due south of Simi Valley and Boise, Idaho.
 
Talked to a former night time KWNK jock who said he used to comment on the air about what the KBOI jock was talking about. The studio air monitor sounded like that recording most of the time.

What a miserable excuse of a human being.
 
How the heck did that station get on the air, in the first place?? Didn't it go on the air in 1984?? Somewhere I still have my QSL letter from K-Wink/KWNK for hearing the station from my home in Anaheim, while they were still testing the transmitter, before regular programming went on the air. I was using a Kenwood R-1000 communications receiver then, with a Radio West ferrite bar loop antenna. I bet I still have a cassette tape somewhere that I recorded on KWNK audio that year, but I think I could only hear them during the daytime, not at night, as I recall.

I was told the tale of what Lotus found when they took it over. The signal wasn't nearly what it should have been. Well, the phasor and antenna tuning units were not wired with copper tubing* that good engineering practice and RF theory require, but with #14 wire, like that used in house wiring. Made a nice heater. With only 1,000 watts it was "rather pathetic".

*RF travels on the surface of the conductor, so the bigger the area like on pipe, the better the efficiency.
