KWNR PD quits

In the radio trades today:

Rolfe Leaving KWNR: Clear Channel's KWNR/Las Vegas PD Cary Rolfe has resigned his position and will be leaving Country radio. Rolfe says he'll have an announcement about his future next week. Rolfe joined KWNR in October of 2007 after a stint at KDRK/Spokane. His last day will be June 17.

When will Clear Channel pull the plug on this dying station? They have no live jocks, losing in Country's core demo (W25-54), and now NO PD! 95.5 is such a great signal and it seems like they can win with a format better suited for this highly ethnic market. Props to Cary for forcasting the end. Wonder how long it'll take Clear Channel execs to catch up?

Well, considering KCYE once again won in the latest weekly (P25-54 and W25-54), I'm sure the execs are taking notice.

I wonder if Cary was pushed out, as a part of Clear Channel preparing for a flip? That notion doesn't seem far out of the realm of possibility. I mean, they pushed out ALL of their DJs... maybe the PD was just the next step. Now, what’s next on the list? Usually radio corporations don’t allow a PD to stay in the office too long after he/she has “resigned”, unless he/she has a specific purpose (like helping the company with a large project - like a format change).

On another note; don't you think it's sad that KWNR has been almost "bashed" by lots of people (including me) on this board over the last few months and not ONE person has stepped in to defend them? No even an employee? I guess that would be hard to do now since no one works there.

KWNR is like the horse that needs to be taken out in the back and euthanized. Sunny is also struggling too right now, falling out of the top 5 25-54. Party is making inroads against KLUC, but it will take time. CC needs something to jumpstart that cluster and a dying Country station isn't it.

Considering that the word country doesn't appear until the last line, it's very possible this is a general ad, and possibly just posted for EOE; they may have people lined up or at least in mind. Sometimes the ads are legit, though. You never know!
