KWRD Henderson

Does anyone know what is going on with them? I haven't heard them on the air for some time now. I heard the transmitter had a "melt down," but that is unconfirmed.

The transmitter along with the rest of the station. Ask Russell if he cares. No, wait, don't waste your time.

"Transmitter? How's a transmitter gonna make me any mother[censored] money?!!!"

The original post mentioned "a meltdown of the transmitter." Little chance of the commercials going anywhere without it.

Chuck, I'm glad you started this thread. I, too, have noticed KWRD being off the air and wondered what was up but didn't particularly want to start (yet) another thread about it for fear of looking like that was all I had time for anyomre. I've passed by the studio and if the grass is any indication, it's been awhile since anyone's been there. It's in need of a good manicure.

If it's true the XMTR experienced a meltdown and he's looking to sell it, I reckon that the toasted XMTR just knocked a chunk out of the (unreasonable IMNSHO) asking price of $200K.

Whaddayathinkaboutthat, Vern?

I erred in presuming that a commercial radio station would air a smattering of spots somewhere along the way. But, true, there are no spots. It's the cleanest radio station in the world--spotless.

So what -is- a good 5kw AM XMTR going for nowadays?

Goodwill Industries sells them for $50 each, two for $99--if no one knows which stations the equipment came from.

At that price, let's hope they're not crystal-controlled. I'm afraid that would be a dead giveaway as from whince they cometh.

Besides, 2-for-$99 isn't all that great a deal compared to $50 each. I bet they'd take $75 for the pair just so they don't have to worry about 'em being there too long. Just hope if there was any work done on them while Goodwill had 'em, the worker knew what he was doing. No, wait...hopefully maybe they tweaked the final for 50kw instead of 5kw.

I think it ought to knock off about 3 db from the asking price. I have enough to do, but at the right price, I think somebody could make a go of that station.

I'm probably living in the past, but I remember when it was a big part of the Henderson community.

I think it could be again with the right people running it. There's alot of potential around here that could be tapped into to get it running again and be "The Voice of Henderson".

I saw you said it should knock about 3 db off the price. Pardon my ignorance, but what's the decibels-to-dollars exchange rate these days?

Re: $$$

First monday trade days have them going for $1.65 and free snow cones. You could find some atgarage sales, the garage is higher.

Better stick with looking elsewhere. I don't do snow cones unless they're either pina colada with cream or coconut with cream. Neither of those options are available at Canton, so I guess I'll keep looking.

The Thrifty Nickel/American Classifieds came out yesterday. I wonder......

A 3 db loss is 50%. At $100,000 or so, it would probably be worth the investment.
