KWRD needs the lawn mowed

Yesterday, I drove past the KWRD studios on my way to Henderson. They look abandoned. The station is off the air. The grass is up to your knees and there is a pile of old mail sitting on the front doorstep. It doesn't look like anybody has even been by there in weeks.

Mighty sad.... anybody know anything?

Yes. Anyone who would allow such to happen should be exiled to radio hell. Ask the person responsible if he cares.

The key word is "responsible". Obviously he is not and doesn't feel he should be.

That explains everything. Jerry Russell would not really want to hire a landscape person to make the station look good. I cannot believe that this kind of irresponsibility is allowed at the Kilgore highway. I guess HE just hires a landscaper to mow HIS yard, but can't do the same with his so-called properties. Man this is REALLY sad. No plan of action let alone the potential it has. Someone had better call the Better Business Buerau AND the FCC. I feel a mess of violations going on there.<P ID="signature">______________

Still that way this evening. Went to Kilgore and it was (still) dissheveled looking.

BTW...how's the translator shuffle in Kilgore going? My wife got to hear the station for the first time tonight in Kilgore and fell in love with it. <P ID="signature">______________

Since there are multiple stations involved, do you think the furnace should be commensurately hotter?

Ask the person responsible if he cares.

No need to ask...the answer's obvious.<P ID="signature">______________

Anybody distinctly remember the last day KWRD was on the air? <P ID="signature">______________

Steve Joos used to cut the grass himself over at CCTyler...Now THAT was a dedicated GM...GOin the extra mile to make sure the place looked good....NAAAAAAH he was just too damn cheap to hire someone to do it...or to have coffee in the kitchen...

There once were snakes in the tall grass but they moved out when Russell took over the station. Now he has all the tall grass to himself. The snakes wouldn't have bitten him--professional courtesy.

I hope there is a special place in hell for all the people who operate their stations this cheaply. Russell is just pond scum. He has totally ruined the reputations of KZEY, KWRD, and other stations that he is associated with. He cares nothing about broadcasting, only how fat his wallet can get. It doesn't matter the hundreds of hard-working radio people that he has alienated along the way. I wished I could be a fly on the wall come judgement day for him. <P ID="signature">______________

Snakes shed their skin, Russell sheds stations. Snakes hibernate in winter, Russell hibernates no matter the season. Snakes have basic instincts of survival, Russell has no instincts in broadcasting survival.

Oh, that getting into Heaven would be so easy as to run a radio station on the "straight and narrow".

Of course, there'd probably still be people that wouldn't tow the mark.<P ID="signature">______________

So true. Maybe he will lose it all some day and find himself without a pit to hiss in.

I can imagine this. Russell enters into heaven and his name is not in the book of life: "Jerry Don Russell.....depart from me, I never knew you!"<P ID="signature">______________

Too optimistic. He would have to travel upwards to get there.

How does this guy make money from what I've heard all his stations are pretty bad off.

Besides KWRD going dark the way of KLUE, Rusell still hasnt fixed KZEY's 1K transmitter, and KOFY's sound quality has a nasty ground fault hummmmm in the background (what are they running now? Hispanic Religion?).

Abcess 1 Longview is another offender: KFRO-AM had two shows running at the same time several times this week. Modulation is still way down compared to KEES and KBGE. Do they check the air monitor there? Do they even know that they own an AM station?

On the other hand props to KGLD - I was in Tyler this week and checked them out, not my kind of music but they sounded good.

We're finally on the new tower and running at 250 watts, with all the FCC forms filed. Moving has been a huge pain in the posterior.

I was listening to the translator when I drove past KWRD and noticed the new landscape scheme. On a car radio, you can get it in some places in Henderson, but it died in my car near the new Lowes store. Today, I noticed it made it past Highway 271 and IH 20. I don't know how far north it goes. but 105.3 is also receivable on a car radio on the south side of Lake Cherokee. This time of year, it will probably work better mid day than early in the morning. The skip is pretty fierce this summer.

We are still tweaking with it but hopefully we'll get into a decent groove very shortly.

Thanks for asking.
