KWRD Stunting

Wonder if it's an LMA or did Hanszen outright buy it? My money says he bought it.

I don't think Jerry is crazy enough to do a long term LMA with its current owner. He purchased KMHT from the same person, so I think he knows what he is getting in to. I haven't seen any transfer applications on the FCC Daily Digest, so my best guess is Jerry is buying it from the current licensee. It is probably LMA'd until the papers clear.

Silly me. I forgot about his prior dealings with the aforementioned licensee of KWRD for KMHT.

Thanks for the update.

Any word on what Phillip's up to these days? Did he ride off into the sunset back down to KPBL (his station in the Hemphill area)?

That's what he told me he was going to do if he lost the station. I haven't heard from him since it flipped.

Glad to hear Hanszen bought the station. He did a wonderful job resurrecting KMHT from the ashes of radio ruin, and is the best suited operator to revive KWRD to its former hometown radio glory. If he keeps this up, local radio will again become a staple in East Texas.

Speculation is now confirmed!

According to yesterday's FCC Daily Digest, a Voluntary Transfer of License (to Hanszen Broadcasting) application was filed.

God bless Phillip Burr for reviving KWRD. I hope KPBL will keep him salty.

If KGAS and KMHT are any indication, KWRD will grow and flourish under Jerry's leadership.

Did you notice this statement on the application, under "Other Interests"?

"ASSIGNOR BELIEVES IT IS THE LICENSEE OF KOFY-AM"

There you go, folks...more proof that Russell is delusional. There is no KOFY. On paper at the FCC it's DKOPY, as in "deleted" after he let it die. And why is there no mention of all the other stations (most of which are off the air) in which he still has an attributable interest?

I think it is in very good hands.

Another Roy Henderson?? Gotta love these part time radio owners...who own but dont operate....

(As Lewis Black would say:"What drugs does someone take to make themselves so.....blublabluh!!!!!...delusional?")

Too bad Jerry couldnt get the KZEY licence and whatever could be saved of DKOFY too.

Now there's an interesting thought.

Wonder what Hanszen would do (format-wise) with "The Station with the Flava"? Considering the AM radio landscape in the Tyler area as well as Hanszen's capabilities, would you care to speculate what might happen?

Southern Gospel would be my guess (as he did with KGAS-AM and KMHT-AM). He would probably add a tradio program.

Both his AMs are ESPN sports now.

It would be interesting to see how well a station with a small-town feel would do in a Tyler-size metro area.

I know that many moons ago on KZAK AM1330 was "Swap Shop" and KTBB has done "Tradio" (or maybe it was the other way around). But, that's been many moons ago.

Sorry, I've been out of touch. ESPN is about as good a format as any for a small town AM stepchild of an FM. However, Jerry likes to sell sports.
