Iowa KWSR-LP Sioux City Featured

The streaming station is rolling out a 30-watt LPFM on 94.3. Good to see at least one community college radio effort surviving.

Western Iowa Tech has owned and operated KWIT for decades as a news and classical station that's an NPR member. It was nice to see that KWIT reached out to the students to let them know that an LPFM was possible.

I interviewed for a job at KWIT in 1979. I didn't get the job, which was just as well, because KWIT eliminated its news department three years later due to budgetary constraints. Back in those days, I was told, a substantial amount of listening went to Omaha stations (on AM). No doubt that's changed.

I've been surprised that KWIT hasn't been taken over by IPR, but there probably are multiple factors involved there.
