KWSS 106.7 Scottsdale,az

And I thought ENERGY 92.7 had a weak signal )
picked this one up, while sitting up on south mountain sunday afternoon.

another interesting but very weak signal was heard on Am as well.
ASU station 1260 "The Blaze"

to bad all them big sticks are up there on south mountain, they really keep the good DX from coming in.

and about KWSS, listening to them on-line now at home, very interesting 80's mix.

Well, what do you want from a 100w LPFM? Although the Blaze, which is AFAIK just carrier-current, gets a pretty good range under those circumstances... I was listening to in a parking lot across from US Airways Center.

KASC, aka The Blaze, is a free-radiating (using a short antenna rather than the power lines like carrier-current) station running about 30 watts. They're only supposed to be audible on campus but they cover most of the Tempe-south Scottsdale-SE Phoenix area quite well.

I think they were carrier-current years ago, though - on 680 kHz, IIRC.

Picked them up during the big Saturday midday
broadcast...wait, that's Sammy on KOOL...well
I did hear them at noon on Saturday in the
vicinity of 44th St. and Thomas in Phoenix.
Have we ever come to a conclusion whether or
not they are legal?

My fading memory has it being 660, pre-KTNN.

(I wonder if they were a DA-N to protect
66/WNNNNBC? ;-)

Re: KASC 1260

as an alum of the kasc the blaze 1260.. it was kasr 680 for many years i think 84-98? 82-84 it was on 660. currently they have a free radiating like keith said however we only wished it was 30w. if memory serves me right its something closer to 15. it was upgraded in 2002 when i was there from 7w. as the antenna/transmitter got fried from a lightning storm in august of 02. the station currently is in great shape, the music selection is what an alternative station should be. not the nickelback's filtered with jimmy eat world or hot hot heat that we hear on fm alternatives. i recommend checking out their stream at www.theblaze1260.com

Well no wonder Nurse Jeff can't pick up the Boss Of The Bay 12-60 KYA anymore!

Nope, it was 680. Of course, there were nights in the dorm when you could get 660 out of Window Rock better than 680's carrier current. <P ID="signature">______________
