KWUR at Washington University celebrates 50 years

Washington University commemorates the centrally located 10-watt FM station’s milestone anniversary with profiles of past and current student DJs.

Living in the Metro-East (IL) suburbs, I would pick up KWUR on my Panasonic RF-2200. I became a regular listener to them in the fall of 1980. Their format was New Wave/Alternative/Freeform, and the station introduced me to new music commercial radio wasn't playing. In 1981, Florissant Valley Community College KCFV Ferguson, MO (89.5 MHz at 10 w) adopted a more structured approach to New Wave. Both stations were fun to listen to in that era.

These days, I often hear KWUR playing classical music when I drive into Clayton and the Forest Park area.
