KXAN NBC Austin New slogan

Does LIN still own KXAN 36? I just noticed recently instead of KXAN news 36 there slogan is now KXAN NBC Austin.?<P ID="signature">______________

They may be starting to deemphasize the "36." KXAN is on numerous different cable positions in the Austin area, and apparently will keep their OTA digital signal on channel 21 after the analog goes dark.

Apparently a number of stations around the country are moving towards emphasizing a name branding, as opposed to a channel branding. Of course, the digital signal maps to whatever channel the station wants, but we are probably seeing the beginning of a trend here.

Lots of stations did the same thing back in the 80s when cable was really taking off. Then they realized people still know the station as "Channel 36" even if it's on 4.
