KXAS 5 DFW - Sports?

What is happening at channel 5... Last night the sports section was cut way short and tonight there was no sports at all
and after the weather it was just a bunch of filler stories and plenty of commercials.
They wasted the last 10 minutes of the show. I guess they thought we wouldn't notice.
 
I also saw that. I was watching The Rangers game which was in extra innings. Switched over to KXAS at 10 to watch the news. Thought they would have a final score. My mistake.
 
It's very simple: channel 5 decided not to do sports at 10 opposite the Cowboys game. They didn't want people to see a partial score and click over to channel 11.

It's dumb, but that's what they did.
 
So, it wasnt because Newdog Scruggs had a date and couldnt get derek castillo to fill in ;)

Seriously, since scott murray left, the quality of the sports department has gone down the toliet.

Now you know some of the reasons for his departure.
 
It all started when NBC made em a O&O, alot of the quality went as well. Usually you see the opposite effect, but LIN runs a pretty tight ship. Network brought in just faces, not journalists.

You are an idiot. First, Newy is a married man who just had a second child. So don't throw BS like this out on a website.

Second, Scott Murray was nothing short of sorry. He spent more time MC'ing events, and the man flatout had no relation with any sports figures. Newy is a tremendous upgrade, and clearly the ratings show that. Next to Hansen, he is the best sports guy in the entire market.
 
First prince, it was humorous sarcasm: (–noun 1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.) Which powered that comment. If you didnt notice, there was a ;) involved. I know Newie has a wife and kids, in fact, I met them one day at the grocery store, really nice guy in person.

Second, I think since scott left, the quality has slid some. Sure Murray MC'd alot of CHARITY events(i.e MDA, Big Brother & Sisters, ect..) but he still found time to pull feeds, edit, write his own copy and report the sports on a nightly basis and did it pretty darn well, not put in his filler guy and explain away why he isnt there. When you decide NOT to run a nightly sportscast because the cross-highway competitor is running the game, it shows you lack confidence in your product. I dont believe Doocy phone'd it in that night from his luxrious digs, Nor did Dale feel sorry for himself and throw a Sports Special pitty party at the ranch in Waxahachie. Heck, even Bob Irzyk drove in that day and put together a 5-7 min sportscast with highlights from the day, in addition to reporting it all by himself. Did we see the Newdog or even Derek come in to one broadcast hill and make an effort, the answer is obvious.
 
I'm very new to this forum but I've got to tell you, I don't like Channel 5 at all.

Never have, never will. I don't know what it is about NBC but I just don't like the network.
Can't stand Mike Snider/Snyder ??? He seems like a pompous jerk. Jane is okay but nothing special.
Didn't care for Scott Murry either, but like Newy okay. The weekend guy, Derek Castillo is horrible and
has a HUGE need for a new haircut or a bad rug.............. :)

The thing that gripes me is that Channel 4 has an hour long newcast at 9:00 p.m., yet Mike Doocy only gets
about 4 minutes of time during the entire newscast. They spend so much time cross-promoting American Idol even when it isn't even running, during their newscast it isn't even funny. I thought the newscast was about NEWS, not American Idol. I like Steve and Heather, they do a good job, but would like to see a longer sportscast on the 9:00 p.m. news.

Lastly, say what you will about Hansen, but the guy is a "word-smith" genius. Whether you agree with him or not, hate him or love him, when he had a commentary last week about TO and all of his goofiness and the "suicide attempt", Dale can put words together and write about as well as anyone I have ever heard. You either like Hansen or you hate him and I like him. What I am most impressed about is his writing skills when he gets a chance to have a commentary about some sports-related issue. I am extremely impressed with him during these commentaries.
