KXAS news overkill

Is KXAS trying to revieve "The Texas News" from the 60's? At 6pm the opening story was about a family's home that exploded. They used a music bed under the voiceover. To me it took away from the story. The story is sad enough without NBC5 trying to set the mood. Match that with Ron Burgundy's Ted Baxter intro and I changed the channel. :(

KXAS has been declining for years. They have so many mistakes during the newscast. I really love the weather department and that is why I guess I continue to watch it but I really have issues with the Jane/Mike presentations as well as the people behind the scenes who make the newscast seem like a college presentation at times. I almost feel guilty when I watch a differnet station's newscast because I have been a viewer for so long but the more they "mess up" the more it sends me to a different station. I wish they would move the weather folks to other stations so I could ease my guilt....LOL!!!

I understand KXAS is now using Ross Overdrive, one of those "newscast in a box" production systems. Things can get pretty messy if whoever's running it isn't thoroughly proficient, or if the newscast producer insists on constantly changing the show rundown at the last second while on air.

The studio is almost entirely automated, with only a floor director present. All cameras are computer controlled. The air staff is not happy about it, and you can see why. Computers don't understand the rule of thirds, OTS, etc. Anchors move around. Presets are static, and it shows.

Ive seen other stations run automated newsrooms and they're product always has looked better than the garbage put out recently by NBC5

Let me ask this....does anyone know if KXAS knows how bad it is? They must get good ratings because they NEVER change a thing! I really would like to see changes.

KXAS has little control over the situation. This was an NBC mandate to control costs and not have to deal with production unions.

Are they still doing that stupid several-station's-boards(or switches or whatever)-run-by-a-place-in-Florida crap?? I can see regional news bureaus, sure, but remote-control technical functions? A local TV station shouldn't be treated like a Stepford Wife.

Co$t cutting is one thing, but the peacock seems to have lowered it to all new heights (or, risen to all new depths)....
