KXBL / KVOO-FM Call Sign Exchange

Finally...I thought this should have been done a while ago. The FCC has approved Griffin's request to swap the calls of KVOO-FM 98.5 and KXBL 99.5, effective January 5 2026. The more "Bull"-like KXBL calls (which 99.5 took back when it was branded as "the Bull") go to current "Bull" 98.5, and the KVOO-FM calls will go the reverse direction to 99.5. I wonder if 99.5's classic country format gets a rebrand to actually brand with those heritage KVOO calls?

I had that thought, too. The irony is that 99.5 was The Bull, and that was how 99.5 got those calls (from KCKI). It didn't last long. Journal got a new GM who decided that cluster needed to be positioned differently. He was a sharp guy who knew his stuff and has experience with all country clusters, but I think he got a little more than he bargained for with that one. Don't know if Gil still posts here (I haven't seen him here in quite awhile), but he could give you a blow-by-blow account of what happened.

KVOO was Big Country for years, and that was why 99.5 took the Big Country name when it went classic country. That was another reason I thought the KVOO calls belonged on 99.5.
