KXEB sold to Catholic group?

It appears that "Air America Radio Dallas", KXEB 910 AM, has been sold by the Border Media Partners. The sale was confirmed by the station's Sales Manager, Tony Migura.

"Yes, it is true. The station has been sold," he said. "Call me tomorrow and we'll do a whole press release." He refused to answer any further questions.

The buyer is the Catholic Global Radio Network. No word on when the changeover will take place, but my sources say it could happen as soon as Oct. 1, 2006.

This news came via several of Air America Dallas' advertisers, including multiple Congressional campaigns. Though referred to as "rumor" by Nancy Cunningham, who manages the Dallas AAR grassroots website, the situation looks grim for progressive talk radio in North Texas.

On a side note, there is no word as to what will become of Border Media Partners' other two liberal talk stations - KOKE in Austin and KTXX in San Antonio.

Will Catholic Global Radio (owned by the EWTN Catholic cable TV network) honor the sports contracts that have been signed with FC Dallas and SMU?

Great news!! There are a lot of Catholics in North Texas... finally we get a radio station....or two.

Whatever happened to KHFX 1460 flipping to the Catholic targeted Relevant Radio Network? Some discussion of that on this board some months back. Relevant Radio is already on Austin's KIXL 970.

Wonder if KXEB will carry the English or Spanish feed of EWTN? Of course both are easily received via WEWN, EWTN's shortwave operation.

Maybe this should be a seperate thread, but since KJON has come up, I'll bring it up here. TvRadioWorld (radiostationworld.com) is listing KJON 850 as La Pantera, Regional Mexican, and KFJZ 870 which has been La Pantera, Regional Mexican for several years, as silent. What's going on there?

In response to Mediafrog's question about whether the Catholic radio will be in English or Spanish, we'll have both. KXEB 910 AM will carry mostly EWTN English programming (with some local live mixed in) and KJON will carry mostly EWTN Spanish (also with some local live).

Re: KXEB sold to Catholic group/Air America

Is there no surprise that DFW is losing Air America? The same week we hear that AA is being dropped from 910 there's still another right-wing Republican talk station popping up on 1160 AM. Is there no place in DFW for liberal talk?

Dallas ?Balanced? A nice dream, but as long as you got conservatives controlling the airwaves, you will get a conservative presentation."Liberal media"? A nice phrase invesnted by Rush and his lemmings. It never truly existed . Air America over all is not great and Al Franken is just as pompus and arrogant as Rush. Again the "fairness Doctrine" insured both sides political, and civic were heard. Now its which conservative can cut off callers quicker and yell the loudest plus come up with more creative ways of name calling.

The irony of this is that the liberal Air America format was actually doing reasonably decent locally, especially considering that the weak KXEB signal only covered part of the market...and mostly, the more conservative parts of the market, at that!
