KXII-DT Adding UPN Sub-Channel

KXII-DT (20) has added a sub-channel called UPN Texoma. There is no programing on the station yet, just a call-sign screen.

Correction: KTXA (UPN 21) will be replaced, not KDFI (Channel 27)

The newspaper folks apparently picked up on this before anyone was really ready to talk or make an announcement. That may not bode well for the deal happening. Based on what I know of the area, there are a lot of people who live in Grayson County that watch Fox 4 news. They won't be happy to hear that the cable company wants to take that away from them.

The small silver lining: During football season, a "Fox Texoma" would not be as subject to as much of the NFL TV/blackout policy. Currently, when the Cowboys are at home on a Fox doubleheader Sunday, Fox 4 can only carry one game, while CBS carries a game unopposed in the other time slot.

To try to keep it simple: Sherman would be guaranteed 3 NFL games every Sunday, from KXII and "Fox Texoma". There are Sundays in DFW where we only get one game on Fox 4, and one game on CBS 11.

Part of Grayson County falls within a 75 mile radius of Texas Stadium, making it subject to a blackout, if a Cowboy game did not sell out. However, unlike in the home market of DFW, the network would be allowed to show another game in its place. Luckily for all of us, the Cowboys have been selling out, one way or another, no matter how good or bad the team is. There have been no blackouts, to my recollection, since 1990 or 1991.

Except for a few Sundays a year, however, I'm sure people in Sherman and Denison would rather have Fox 4 than a local cheap imitation.

You know that you can buy an outdoor antenna from radio shack and erect it. At my place in Carrollton I use a VU 75-XR antenna and when I aim it at Sherman or Madill which is about 50-65 miles from me I can pull in KXII pretty good. Why would you waste taking KDFW off of cable for those who either can't afford antennas or have limited space for an antenna. If I lived up in Grayson county I would go ahead and pay for an antenna and pull in the Dallas stations.
______________

That would be really interesting for people up in Ada to receive fox Texoma when they can erect an antenna and pick up FOX 25 out of Oklahoma City or in that case any other OKC station.
______________

That's absolutely right. Ada cable subscribers receive all OKC channels in addition to KTEN and KXII. And, with a decent antenna, they can receive OKC channels over the air.

It's just as interesting in Ardmore, where they receive KFOR-4 (NBC), KWTV-9 (CBS), and KOKH-25 (Fox) from OKC, in addition to WFAA from Dallas and the local KTEN and KXII.

Good catch, DXER1. I got the cable channel and the nets right, and botched the calls. Thanks.
