Washington KXLE-FM downgrade

I didn't know they used the window on the translators for local or regional announcements, as I'm not in audible range of one of their signals. That's smart, at least they're using it to its full ability.
Freedom Radio FM did that as well... alot of their stuff went to radio by grace. the freedom radio fm translator in laramie, wy where i used to be had a local announcem, ent

Very true. And 97.9 is much better for KPUG than 97.3 ever could be

And Saga was originally going to put it on 97.3 but the outcry from KIRO fans was so great they moved to 97.9!
Not so sure that an "outcry from KIRO fans" would have any impact, since it's based on spacing and contour overlap.

Rest assured, the outcry ftom KIRO listeners caused Saga to move the proposed translator from 97.3 to 97.9. Please see here:

THIS FORM 349 FILING WAS ORIGINALLY GRANTED AS A '250 MILE WINDOW APPLICATION' IN RESPONSE TO THE REVITALIZATION OF THE AM RADIO SERVICE, FIRST REPORT AND ORDER (MB DOCKET NO. 13-249 (FCC 15-142), RELEASED OCTOBER 23, 2015; SUBSEQUENT PUBLIC NOTICE DA 15 1215, RELEASED OCTOBER 26, 2015; AND FINAL PUBLIC NOTICE DA 1491, RELEASED DECEMBER 23, 2015. HOWEVER THIS SPECIFIC FORM 349 FILING IS BEING FILED AS A SIMPLE MINOR CONSTRUCTION PERMIT MODIFICATION AS ALLOWED UNDER SPECIAL CONDITION FIVE (5) OF BMPFT-20160729AFE (AS COVERED BY PENDING LICENSE APPLICATION BLFT-20161020AAY) WHICH READS, 'MINOR MODIFICATIONS OF THIS AUTHORIZATION ARE PERMITTED, PROVIDED THAT THE TRANSLATOR WILL CONTINUE TO REBROADCAST THE AM STATION FOR WHICH THE MODIFICATION WAS GRANTED.'

EXPEDITED CONSIDERATION IS REQUESTED. ON NOVEMBER 3, 2016, BONNEVILLE INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, LICENSEE OF KIRO-FM, TACOMA, WA, FILED A 'COMPLAINT REGARDING CO-CHANNEL INTERFERENCE CAUSED BY TRANSMISSIONS OF FM TRANSLATOR K247CM.' THAT COMPLAINT TRANSMITTED 61 COMPLAINTS OF INTERFERENCE TO CO-CHANNEL KIRO-FM, DESPITE 92.9 KM SEPARATION BETWEEN KIRO-FM AND K247CM (29 KM OF CLEARANCE). THIS IS APPARENTLY THE RESULT OF THE CENTER OF RADIATION OF THE KIRO-FM ANTENNA BEING 729 METERS ABOVE AVERAGE TERRAIN.

RATHER THAN INVESTIGATE EACH ALLEGED COMPLAINT OF INTERFERENCE, THE PERMITTEE OF K247CM HAS ELECTED TO FILE THIS APPLICATION TO MOVE TO ANOTHER CHANNEL WHICH SHOULD CLEAR KIRO-FM. HOWEVER, THIS APPLICATION REQUIRES CANADIAN CLEARANCE. THE PERMITTEE RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS THAT THE COMMISSION EXPEDITE CONSIDERATION OF THIS APPLICATION, INCLUDING CONTACTING CANADIAN REGULATORS TO OBTAIN ACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID DISRUPTION OF SERVICE.

K247CM REBROADCASTS AM STATION KPUG, BELLINGHAM, WA, WHICH HAS A SPORTS FORMAT. AS THE COMMISSION IS AWARE, AM STATIONS ARE STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN AUDIENCES. IN ORDER TO ASSIST AM STATIONS, THE COMMISSION ADOPTED THE RULES CITED ABOVE IN 'REVITALIZATION OF THE AM RADIO SERVICE.' KPUG PROVIDES A SPORTS FORMAT TO THE RESIDENTS OF THE BELLINGHAM, WA, AREA. IT IS IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST TO ALLOW K247CM TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE FM SERVICE TO KPUG'S LISTENERS.

Ironically, the Belligham listeners to KING-FM 98.1 then commenced their own "outcry" but apparently Dori Monson listeners carry more weight than Vivaldi listeners. Or at least they did when Dori was still 2 meters above ground.

Bill- respect the heck out of you as an owner and engineer...what would you have done here? Would you have tried to fight Bonneville in a similar circumstance? Or would you have moved to another spot on the dial, even though you were technically right?

My error. Somehow my aging brain missed that the discussion had to do with an FM translator...
My second major mistake... the first was staying in broadcasting when I could've taken up welding...
