They are all positioning right now.
It sounds good. I think thier flow of tempos are a bit slow. I'd like more variety in tempos. Artist selection seems overall not bad. I think the "Spokane's 99.9 The river - Quality Rock/True Variety" is a bit long winded. Maybe in time they'll whittle that down after they finish the roll out. I'm a fan of simplicity.
The most interesting thing is the tie in with KPND 95.3 out of Sandpoint, ID, which you may already know is a AAA format also. KPND has been seeking the Spokane market for over a year. They were slated to go hot on thier new stick south of Newport @ 56kw earlier this month. In theory that should put a nice signal into Spokane proper. It didn't happen and has been delayed until 2007.
So KXLY just came in and beat them to the punch.
So 2007 is the year of 2 AAA's in Spokane?
Kudos to XL for at least doing something different. Agressively restructuring KZZU, blowing up KEZE's hot AC for the urban format and now KXLY FM going triple AAA. Its bold.
