KXMX/KJLL

KXMX (1190 AM) recently sold for $12 million. I saw a posting that KJLL was going for $70 million and that the price may be too high. I am not totally up on radio station pricing but it sure looks like KJLL (the tri-cast) is priced reasonably when compared to the price for the KXMX AM signal.

...wonder how much KJLL-FM paid the original KJLL (AM 1330, South Tucson AZ, since 1999) for use of those call letters...

Probably not much... the calls are not ultra-significant, and the AM had no FM. My guess is that it was less than $10 k.

Speaking of Jill FM, I am looking at the ratings from all three coverage areas and it looks like KAJL-FM Adelanto has the highest rating for Jill FM out of the three transmitter coverage. It looks like KAJL is a 2.1, KJLL FM is a 0.8 and KHJL-FM is a 0.9. The Arturo Group was trying to focus on mainly on Los Angeles and the OC but the Victor Valley and Ventura County had there highest rating!! That is bad!!! I can see why the Arturo Group has laid off some staff members are putting all three stations on the market. I think Jill FM should stay in the Victor Valley to see if they can bunt heads with KZXY-FM which looks like they went from a 6.1 to a 5.5 rating in the Victor Valley. What are your thoughts about that?

It costs THAT much for call letters?!

But there is nobody in the Victor Valley area as compared with the OC and Thousand Oaks. 2.1 of 10 listeners, vs. 0.8 of 1000. Also fewer stations out there so that a 2.1 might be the equivalent of a 0.8 in the OC.

It only costs if someone else is using them...and it only costs whatever someone is willing to pay....otherwise they move on to other options.

Or more if they are good calls. These are not FCC fees but for the assignment of rights to unused services (An AM letting a station in another market use the calls on an FM). So a station negotiates a "cost" to have the station with the rights allow usage on another service.
