KXNM

I have been hearing nothing but static (and the occasional signal from Las Vegas) on 88.7 (KXNM - Encino). Supposed to be re-broadcasting KANW. Nothing filed with the FCC. But what makes this interesting is that I have been hearing a strong dead carrier in downtown ABQ. Nothing filed with the FCC either. There is a 100w station in Socorro so I am not sure what might be happening.

Can't recall with clarity but I recall KXNM basically saying the revenue was not what they needed. Very quickly KANW began simulcasting on 88.7. From my understanding KXNM never gave up the license. I know if board changes exceed 50% from when the license was granted or renewed, it is the same as a change in ownership. Would that be done with a consummation notice?

Not being in the area I enjoyed listening a couple of hours while driving through New Mexico and really liked what they were doing. A good community-oriented station.

Assignment of license to the Albuquerque Board of Education was approved on August 22. It does seem like a long time for what appears to be a friendly acquisition. Perhaps there were funding issues? A website for KXNM is still up but doesn't appear to have been updated for years: X 88.7 FM KXNM - The Voice of Central New Mexico (and there's no homepage as such but individual pages are still accessible) When I was last in Albuquerque, in May 2023, KXNM was included in KANW's TOH IDs.
