KXNT AM 840 Moves To Lifestyle Local Talk

KXNT AM 840 "The Talk Station" is mostly syndicated political programming. Alan Stock & Heidi Harris in the morning is a different kind of talk of morning talk show. The political and controversal issues of the day have been abandoned by lifestyle talk. Subjects regarding what's appropiate attire for the workplace and what kind of coffee is good to drink in the morning has made for higher ratings for KXNT. KXNT's audience is more diverse than KDWN's snoozebusters. KDWN's one note on the immigration issue hasen't got them higher ratings. It may very well be a big issue but not for the majority of Las Vegas radio listeners or KXNT listeners or their sponsers. You can get the same kind of talk with Mark & Mercedes in the morning that you would find on KXNT AM 840. Will this be the new trend in talk radio? Abandoning political talk ? What is the big reason for KXNT's change to lifestyle talk and what are Las Vegas listeners longing for in the realm of radio?

not to get political...but the polls...believe them or not are not to good for Bush ..the Iraq war,,,congress etc. and if they are as low as they are,,,it would suggest that ma conservatives and moderates are burned out on politics...and we haven'i seen progressive talk..shultz basham take off either on the left in LVin LA KFI Handel and John and Ken have dumped on Bush

Looking at the ratings, it seams to be working very well for both KXNT and their morning show. GST has always been a piss-poor operation.

KXNT is doing good 12+ but their 25-54 is not nearly as impressive. They rank #17 25-54 and #17 25-54 mornings. They barely show up on the weekends (when they run some local lifestyle oriented shows) where they rank #23 25-54.So it would appear that lifestyle talk appeals to the 55+ audience. They might enjoy the light chatter. My personal preference for talk radio is for serious discussion of political issues and current events. The FM morning shows do a fine job of talking about lifestyle topics, it's a waste for an AM talk station to be fluff.

Re: KXNT AM 840 new local evening program

one of the radio stars (quote unquote) is doing a weekday evening show 6-8pm Oreilly gets pushed back and Mike Gallegger gets dumped or goes to late nite......Someone said they couldn't afford another local show..being 32 market in country..of course they had 3 local shows-- morning afternoon and evening a few years ago....I wonder if it will help their ratings? they seem to be doing more news also

Keep in mind, folks, that with the upcoming sale/format change at KDWN, this will be an excellent way for KXNT to cherry pick some programming, & enlarge their current listener base.
