KXOB 107.1 Format Flip

Ugh, Rick told me to come look at this board and see the hilarity. All I can say is ugh. This isn't a place for people to anonymously talk about radio; it's a place for people to hide behind screen names to snark at their colleagues. Good God, it's worse than high school in here. "Boss Radio" (Jesus, man up and cop to who you are), the only reason I am 'tired' is because I get up at 3AM. It's so easy to bandy about harsh criticisms from the comfort of your anonymous little pile of poo on the internet. And Kane, since you asked, the Front Row beat Bob and Tom year in and year out for well over a decade. Consistently. And no, I am not the Front Row, but Chris Daniel himself will tell you that the battles waged and won were done together, and I had a 50% stake in that success. Roddam and Lipp (just one 'n' in Jen, thanks) is not the Front Row; it's an evolution of live local radio. Sadly, Bob and Tom is exactly. the. same. show. as it was 15 years ago. No snarkiness needed--listen to some old tapes.

Geez a board like this could be such a great exchange for professionals. Too bad. With all of the outside forces making our jobs harder, we really should be hoping for the success of other live local talents; not hiding behind pithy names to tear each other down. For every live, local jock who wins, another oversized company may pause to see that money can be made while actually providing quality entertainment to the listener. Isn't that why we're here? Or are we just killing time, being snarky until payday? Because that isn't why I got into radio. Regardless, I wish you success if you are someone who remembers how fun radio is supposed to be. The better you are, the better you will make me be. And then everyone wins.

David Caudillo has replaced Brian Anthony at Mega 97.9FM. I don't know if he is doing the show live though. I haven't heard anything about Nicole being on her way out, perhaps Peak has gotten tired of being laughed at for that hire.

I don't think Rick and Jen can dominate but I wish them luck, voice tracking has been killing radio. and yes KRZR killed themselves. I don't think "tired" meant sleepy. Bottom line Jack-FM cost very little to run, plus Peak has other resourse to draw from, other top 5 stations.

Hey Dude! To be fair, I think we dropped two books to Howard ;D You know back then, everyone said the Front Row should just curl up and die because who in their right mind would go up against the King of all Media in his heyday? Whatever. At the end of the day, the listeners decide. THAT is the beauty of radio. To me, Bob and Tom is not an insurmountable obstacle. I'm not throwing ego behind that, just 'been there done that'. No one has come at me with a counter on my adjectives, so I'm not too worried about that. I have yet to see Bob and Tom at any of my kid's sporting events, but I sure have met some great people who happen to listen there as well. Fundamentally we are SUPPOSED to disagree...I mean, hello? We are competitors. I like to live a 'do unto others' kind of life, though, so I prefer to disagree openly and in a civil manner. I know chatrooms and message boads are fraught with people who have no respect for humanity on the whole, but I thought it was fair to post a reminder that we are all trying to achieve the same goal (I hope). My boy is home from school, and the girls are up from nap, so I'm out. Be well!

PS 'radio reporter' I get that tired did not refer to sleepy. Go to dictionary.com and search 'sarcasm'. Report back, would you?

Why doess everyone think KRZR is toast, they keep coming to work
everyday there with no regard to anything or anyone else? - It's an
attitude active rock station. Everyone there has a first name and
wears black.

While you kids are punching each other in the nose did anyone get a hold of the trends?

Where I live at (Stockton), I cannot pick up the new KHIT 107.1 because it is in the middle of Two Powerhouses, KFRC-106.9 San Francisco (Simulcasting KCBS-740) and KSTN-107.3 (Regional Mexican). I do however listen to KCCL-92.1 Placerville-Sacramento, known as "K-HITS 92.1." They are CLASSIC HITS of the 60's And 70's and plays a mix of ROCK, POP and R&B. They play everything from ELTON JOHN to PETER FRAMPTON to THE BEATLES to EARTH WIND AND FIRE to WILD CHERRY to JIMI HENDRIX to BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS to STEVIE WONDER to THE BEE GEES to ELVIS PRESLEY to WAR to THE GRATEFUL DEAD to THE ROLLING STONES to CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL to ....... You get what I mean? I love listening to this station. Does your KHIT resemble my K-HITS? Do they play the Blend of ROCK, POP and R&B or is it mostly ROCK oriented? Thanks!!! Sam

KHIT plays most of the artist you have mention, I haven't heard Elvis yet ,they play a little more ROCK than they play R&B,Maybe because MEGA 97.9 plays nothing but R&B, They play more 70s than 60s and 80s I would say there time range is from 1965-1985.
Sacramento's K-HITS doesn't play any 80's. Their time range seems to be from 1964-1979. Maybe 1980, but not past that. Sacramento has a station similar to Fresno's MEGA, It is called "V-101.1" and the calls are KHYL. They play what I call RHYTHMIC OLDIES or as they advertise "THE R&B AND OLD SCHOOL STATION". Their music ranges from 1965-1990. While I like some R&B, Only the pre-1975 R&B. Also our K-HITS plays some DISCO. Does your KHIT play any Disco? Thanks!...Sam.

KHIT went on the air playing "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry, but I haven't heard any real DISCO like Donna Summers,Saturday Night Fever,or even The Village People. They did play "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge if that counts. They play R&B about every 4th or 5th song and it's usually a big artist like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Earth Wind and Fire . they stay away from the so called bubble gum 60s and 70s like Donny Osmond, Partridge family ,BobbySherman,Archees and The Jackson Five. They're mainly Pop-Mainstream Rock,LRB,ELO, Jerry Rapperty, Rod Stewart Fleetwood Mac and so forth. If your familier with what Y 94 (KFYE 93.7) was playing in the 70s thats there music.

Our K-HITS does also play Bubble Gum Pop like THE ARCHIES, THE OSMONDS and THE JACKSON 5IVE. I prefer the mix of music on K-HITS 92.1 compared to SACRAMENTO's 93.7 JACK FM (KQJK). Our Jack plays mostly rock music from 1976-2005. Ours is like a hybrid of CLASSIC ROCK, ALTERNATIVE ROCK and HOT AC. Our JACK plays everything from PETER FRAMPTON and THE ROLLING STONES to DEVO and STYX to R.E.M. and ABBA to JOHN MAYER and BOWLING FOR SOUP. I am guessing Fresno's JACK is like ours?

Yes KFJK 105.9 JACK FM is very much the same. KFJK plays more 80s than anything else, but does play from 1967-2005. they do play some 60s like The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. They even throw in a little 80s RAP like Tone Loc and RUN DMC. Out of the blue play New York New York by Frank Sinatra. After all THEY PLAY WHAT THEY WANT.

Bob and Tom as well as the FOX is old and warn out, KRZR sucks now ,RICK and JEN rules the morning , Now what is 104.1 going to do now ADAM is gone?

KHIT needs to expand their music ,How about playing all hits from the 70s,so far they play the same artist as the FOX every 2 hours ,The same big groups The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, and The Eagles. How about ABBA ,Barry Manilow, John Denver, why not. They should make it like KYNO from the 60s and 70s.thier playlist is repetative.IF IT WAS A HIT IN THE TOP 40 PLAY IT. madmansam mention a station in Sacramento 92.1 that plays everything, thats what they should do. They should not compete with the FOX or JACK directly they should make it like the old 92.9 KFSO.

If it was a hit in the top 40, play it? I dunno about that. Take a listen to an old KYNO airchex from the '70's and you'll be asking, why did they ever play THAT.. You really wanna hear Angie Baby? Spiders and Snakes?

The playlist is a little too narrow though. Easy to burn-out. What are they playing, four or five Stone's tunes total?

KHIT does remind me of KYNO in the last years, when Novak was back for the last time.

is anyone else falling alseep listening to KHIT 107.1?

YES ,but now that KFJK JACK-FM is gone they should add more 80s and expand their music. Not the same 200 songs they have been playing from the 70s over and over again.
