KXOJ Tulsa moved from 100.9 to 94.1

Monday, I believe, Tulsa's KXOJ started broadcasting its Christian music on 94.1, which had been a classic rock/lite rock station since I moved here in 2009.

Unusually, KXOJ's previous frequency 100.9 is broadcasting a loop to notify listeners of the change of frequency. Not exactly stunting but interesting. I wonder what will be on 100.9 afterwards?

Updates: I noticed that the 100.9 station IDs at the top of the hour indicate the call letters are KTSO, the old call letters from 94.1, so they appear to be switched.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that KTSO's Lite Rock format will end up on 100.9. According to KTSO's old website (link below) which has been repurposed, "Something New is Coming" to that frequency. The page has a countdown to September 1 at midnight.

The first change in the broadcasting loop (or stunting) on 100.9 Tulsa has occurred today, after about 10 days of the change of frequency loop described above. The new message is basically the same thing, verbal instructions to tune down to 94.1. Previously, the message sounded like a professional radio spot with a background jingle. The new message is stark with a guy giving instructions in an old school DJ voice. Also it no longer mentions the Christian format, just the call letters ("KXOJ has moved"). Station ID at the top of the hour is unchanged.

I expect more changes in the stunting over the next 5 1/2 days.

I'm currently listening to 100.9 in Northwest Arkansas via a tropo DX opening. I heard the new 94.1 format earlier, later tuning to 100.9, hearing a loop of the following:

"(Beep) Attention: KXOJ has changed frequency. KXOJ has moved to 94.1 FM. Please, turn your dial to 94.1, and set a new preset for KXOJ."

I heard similar references about this change on 100.9 earlier this week, on Sunday night.
I last heard KXOJ on 100.9 on August 10.

Update 8/29: The latest voice message on 100.9 is still unchanged since 8/26. However the website http://941thebreeze.com/ changed at some point over the weekend.

The title shown at the top of the browser now says "It's almost time." The message at the bottom of the page now says: "Something New Is Coming to Tulsa. Tune in Wednesday at 6pm for a preview." Finally, the countdown itself has been changed so that it expires at 6 pm Wednesday, 6 hours earlier than before when it was set to expire at midnight, September 1.

I will be monitoring for any changes in the 100.9 broadcast itself between now and Wednesday.

P.S. Someone apparently in the know has been updating the Wikipedia pages for KXOJ and KTSO. They gave exact times for when the stunting started: it began on 8/16 at midnight with construction noises (on 100.9 or 94.1, or both?), followed by the first change of frequency message on 100.9 beginning at 7:30 that morning.

I've read on another website that they may end up bringing talk radio to that station, which is understandable since 100.9 isn't a strong signal to begin with. Also they closed their 941 the breeze facebook page but not their twitter page.

I'm gonna guess a switch to 80's retro. I figure anything's possible at this point.

Anyway, they seem anxious to make the switch. The website countdown has now moved back another 6 hours to tomorrow at noon. Still no change to the message broadcast on 100.9, though.

The real stunting has finally started. Sometime in the last hour, 100.9 started playing Cliff Richard's 1979 song "We Don't Talk Anymore" over and over.

** Applause for the entertaining stunting this morning! **
9 am
Cliff Richard - We Don't Talk Anymore (on repeat)
10 am
A repeating loop of these 5 songs:
Steely Dan - FM
Clapton - Tulsa Time (live)
The Pretenders - Talk of the Town
The Romantics - Talking in Your Sleep
A local Tulsa themed song that also mentions KXOJ by name
11 am
The Tubes - Talk to You Later (only played once)
The Gap Band - You Dropped a Bomb on Me (on repeat)

I sense a theme.. it looks like we'll have a new talk radio station in Tulsa at noon.

So it *is* an 80s theme.. for now. (I saw a Facebook post referencing some 80s programming coming to KTSO, wondered if it was for real.)

First song is We Are the World, and promising 1980 songs in a row. Now the only question is if this is just an extended stunt, and a prelude to talk radio?

I listened to 94.1 as KXOJ with ID or slogan at 7:01 PM. "94.1 KXOJ" mentioned at 7:05 PM.
I also listened to 100.9 as KTSO earlier. "100.9 Totally Awesome 80s" at 7:06 PM.
I possibly heard a mention of KTSO at 9:01 PM on 100.9.
