KXOK-FM 97.1

What happened to this station when it was an Urban AC? I used to listen to Mike Love in the afternoons on the internet. It was one of the best sounding UAC's in the country, in my opinion.

Long story short, the ratings were anemic, and it was sold. The new owners wanted something that would do better. So, they flipped it to 97 FM The Rock, which was a copy of their sister station in Kansas City, KQRC.

I'm sure part of the story behind the poor ratings was that it didn't have the best signal in areas where its target audience lived. If it signed on in the last few years, it might have done better because St. Louis now has quite-a-few minority suburbs in North County, like Jennings. Other North County cities like St. Ann and Florissant are getting a larger minority population everyday.

I worked at Audionet in the mid 90's and everyday, when I got to work, I would log in to that station. It was so awesome. I did not know KXOK had signal issues. Thanks for the info.
