KXOK Radio Park Question

I attended a convention in St. Louis last week and took Thursday afternoon off to go sightseeing. Being a radio junkie, I wanted to see the site of the now-defunct KXOK Radio Park at 1600 N. Kingshighway.

I turned right onto Kingshighway Blvd from Lindell. When I arrived at the 1600 block, there was a building (apartments?) with the 1610 address. The building looked like it had been there for years, and there didn't look like enough room next to it for KXOK to have been there.

Was I in the wrong place? Or is that building newer than it appeared?

Thanks.

Did you notice an empty lot where 1600 could have been? Sadly, half of St. Louis has been demolished.

The old KXOK Radio Park location is indeed where the tall building is at. The site does not look anything like the land when KXOK was there... The KXOK buidling consisted of an old house that was used for storage, and a 2 story remodeled office building that housed the studios on the first floor, and the station offices on the second floorup one flight of stairs. Both the old house and the 2 story building were connected by a one story entrance that housed the large reception area. It was a very unique place, and had a big front yard with large trees and the big KXOK sign. When I worked at KXOK arojund 1967, the complex was aging, and Storz was looking ot move and sell the buildings and land. But great radio came from Radio Park and it was an unforgetable place in time.

Understatement to KXOK's cultural and documented local/national historic significance.

This was AM radio in the 60's, kiddies. We didn't get music from our phones back then, unless you count the sound of your girlfriend's voice. That was beautiful sound, on any frequency!
