KXOR Flips Again

Once again Sunburst changes their stations. KXOR from K-RockLA (Modern Rock) to Classic rock LA1063 Classic hits Radio. I wonder what the cause for the blow up this time.

If you read the competition http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/32475/sunburst-media-changes-in-houma/ they are saying prep for a blow out of KCIL out of Houma and out to New Orleans and moving the country format to 96.7 which is supposed to actually move itself to a tower nearer to Bayou Black/Houma and license to Gray.
http://maps.google.com/?q=http://ww...YO-FM&freq=96.7&contour=60&city=GRAY&state=LA

But I agree in that they tried to overfix their format messup (I don't know why people think modern rock works in South Louisiana when most rock heads listen to say Killswitch than My chemical Romance) and I'm surprised they didn't just decide to get rid of some of the pop music and move the classic hit/Rock from Dan over to KXOR. Right now the playlist is the stalest I've ever heard since they took over.. Sounds just like Guaranty is running it again.

I'd expected them to realize that it's better as a friend told me, to be a big fish in a small bowl than a small fish in a big bowl. And who ever made the decision is definitely NOT from around here... Your street teams are gonna catch hell for the format flip on the Mardi Gras parade routes, you have a station van that you now have to reskin over night basically if you want to parade it.

If anything, I'd have expected them to flip the rock back to a heritage station like they were originally running when they took over as most people loved that, but my guess is 92.3 is kicking their butt, and sorry to say it, but the rock hits is gonna be another miss as most classic rock fans listen to 95.7 and 98.1 for Walton and Johnson as tower mate 104.1 the Brew is finding out with even worse ratings than before and Jason Ginty actually showing numbers 92.3 hasn't seen in New Orleans in ages.

Another thing to put out here for the rumor mongers... They just purchased WFNO 830. BR has a spanish station on FM, New Orleans technically doesn't... could 107.5 become the first hispanic station on the block, or will we see a possible Hot a/c or even a country music station to attack WNOE?

Things to ponder

Definitely the former...they just moved into new studios and are hiring. Looks like they're gonna just flip KCIL without moving it - I haven't heard of any work being done at the Delacroix site.

I wouldn't expect them to flip KCIL without moving it. Supposedly they just have to do transmitter and combining work if they move to Delacoix and they still have to move 96.7 from Gibson to a Houma tower before they do that.

The K-Rock I didn't expect for it to last as most people on the bayou turned it off when it went more alternative than modern rock. They had a good station going before the flip, but my guess is they want to try classic rock again, however unless they add some more on the playlist, I expect it to be an also ran even worse than K-Rock.

Besides if I was speculating, I'd of flipped 106.3 country (which it was about 10 years ago) and position 96.7 closer to classic rock as it's almost that way already (but with a wider playlist)...

Oops, wasn't as clear as I should have been. I think you're right that they'll move the country format to 96.7. What I meant is that KCIL won't change tower locations (not yet anyway) before they move to the new Spanish format.

Agree with you 100% on the 96.7. The Dan (aka Jack) format works well for pop and in larger cities, but is probably struggling in Houma. They should move and brand it as a classic rocker instead.

Dan FM is about the only FM I actually listen to in my truck for more than a minute...Thats my favorite station down here...but then again..what else is here? I like the variety format over any other format.

I don't know but KGLA has a translator on 105.7 in the N.O. area
