KXOS becomes 93.9 FM KNAC Los Angeles. ??????

i was thinking this the other day, what if KXOS opted out of their 7 year contract agreement, sold the station to Saul Revine, and he flipped it KNAC, I would love to have KNAC back, it never had good ratings cause the signal was a low power FM, but to have a full power FM with ratings in the toilet, its horrible, bring back KNAC, and play Rock music from their heyday, and make it similar like KOST does, play Rock hits from the 80's, 90's, and today, I like the idea, what do you guys think alot of KNAC fans would be thrilled with the idea, im sure, and if i could buy out Jim Ladd's contract out from Sirius radio i would, and bring back Thrasher, and have a morning duo, Ladd and thrasher in the morning 5 to 10 AM, what do you guys think??? just a thought.

You lost me with the hiring of Jim Ladd, otherwise i'm with you as long as you don't do the KLOS trick of playing the same 12 songs by the same 10 artists. Keep in mind though that Metal to today's teens is a lot different than ours was. Where we were getting off on Maiden, Priest, Dio, Malmsteen, Saxon, Megadeath, Grave Danger, Armored Saint, etc., they don't see that as metal. I was out with my niece and some of her friends and one of them told me she liked "Heavy Metal". When I played her some Dio, Priest, and Queensryche she said "That's not Metal". She then mentioned some band names that I have heard of. I'm not sure if it's thrash, speed, grindcore or what. To me it sounds like someone playing the drums and guitars as fast as the can and a singer screaming unintelligibly, and they all sound the same. (GAWD HELP ME! I SOUND LIKE MY PARENTS!) So you'd have to mix the two. Enough to bring in the teens, and but not too much to lose the adults.

Rob I mean hire Ladd from sirius radio, he just got a contract with them but in california you can op out of them, Saul Revine would make the perfect buyer cause he is the only independent owner left in the market, and he's been in LA for years now, KNAC was always owned by a local, so I would want it to stay that. Way, I just think its a neat idea :-X

No Rob i was hoping to have a huge playlist at least 3,000 songs plus, having a wide selection with KNAC would be critical to its success, also having a listener panel to hear suggestions also would be helpful. :-X :-X

I assume 3000 songs is the size of your universe vs playlist. How often would you change your rotations? How well researched are the songs in your universe?

apparently Lee your universe is a Clear Channel or CBS radio Universe, ;D ;D, mine is free from corp. greed, and designed to draw in listeners, not just ad dollars!

Is Saul related to Chavez Revine (sic)?

Michael, im talking about Saul, who owns KKGO 105.1, that used to be classical station, thats who, i dont know who the other person.

Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc., a subsidiary of Mt. Wilson Broadcasting Inc., is a Los Angeles-based company owned by Saul Levine. Levine is the only independent operator of an FM commercial radio station in Los Angeles today.[1]

Ok, I have over 3000 songs on iTunes/iPod. In there I have catagories. Taking my radio background out of this argument, I still say that I only list to between 300-400 songs at a time, because these are the songs that are top of mind. In trying to back up my theory, I found this thread...

http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2187543/1/How_many_songs_do_you_guys_actually_listen_to.html

It's a small sample, but it pretty much explains why we have such small playlists...

Unless they default, the LMA holder, GRC, is the only one with the ability to change the format or operation of 93.9... within the requirements of the FCC, of course.

sold the station to Saul Revine, and he flipped it KNAC,

It's unlikely that Sol Levine would be a buyer. He had opportunities and did not take them.

I would love to have KNAC back, it never had good ratings cause the signal was a low power FM,

It had low ratings because it had a low rated format. It did not even perform well in its coverage are. The current operation of 105.5 has been getting a 3 share or more, 80% coming from what was KNAC. If KNAC could not get a 1 share in the diary method, it would get a 0.3 in the PPM.

but to have a full power FM with ratings in the toilet, its horrible,

Just like KSCA, another rock format, which blamed the signal for its problems... yet it went from a 1 share to a 6 share within 6 months of going to a different format.

And LBI is not independent?
