KXT 91.7

IMHO, this is a good move. Unlike a number of other public stations, KERA's financial position is in relatively good shape (in contrast to WQED and WGBH).

The left end of the FM band still has plenty of religious stations remaining, thus the current KVTT campaign of ``Will We Be Silenced?'' strikes me as over the top.

I think KVTT's website is to trying to get folk up in arms. Its unfortunate because the owners sold the frequency. It would be wise to say that they want their listeners be mad that the format is going away. Could that be it?

I assume the story had the call sign in error. Will the station be KNXT or KKXT?

KKXT are the calls reserved. It could brand as "KXT"...much like the old KKDL went by "106.7 KDL"

KERA's financial health is good relative to other public broadcasters around the country. It has to be somewhat better than most to spend $18 million on a new radio station. I still find the whole thing a little odd. It seems to me they would have had a better ROI by plowing that money into producing TV programming that could have been sold to PBS stations around the country. Maybe they're just out of ideas for TV programming, but that has never seemed to be the case in the past.

As I understand it, there is a PBS funding mechanism that loans money to stations for purposes of acquisitions of additional frequencies. KERA didn't pay cash for the new station.
And because it is a non-commercial frequency, the price tag was probably a lot less than for a commercial frequency. I'm looking forward to hearing the new station when it launches November 9th.

Would you list stations streaming on the Internet that, in your opinion, best represents what KXT will sound like in November?

Thanks.

I was surfin' around and found this Facebook page that confirms the KXT call letters, a launch date of Nov 9th + there is a graphic, I'm presuming their first logo:

Remember there is another three-lettered station nearby, KUT in Austin which has a similar mindset in programming.

They have a website address but as of my typing this there is only a GoDaddy holding page there, hopefully some content soon.
