KXT -- feature from "Dallas Observer"

Quoting from the Nov. 4th Observer Article:

"We're listening to a lot of bad music so you don't have to," Gina Mascorro says with a laugh.

Few people, with the exception of those employed in the field maybe, will argue with this much: Regular ol' radio just ain't what it used to be. Music-wise, there just isn't much compelling content to be found while scanning the AM and FM dials in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

But for the most part, the regional offerings are mostly, well, anti-regional—national playlists created by corporate bigwigs intent on thrusting Taylor Swift and Daughtry and, though it's undeniably catchy, Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." down listeners' throats every 20 minutes.

Let's face it: It's a problem when, at his band's annual Holiday Extravaganza, Polyphonic Spree frontman Tim DeLaughter, one of the region's true musical treasures, feels compelled to shout out the local sports radio juggernaut KTCK-1310 AM The Ticket and thank it as being the lone station in town to play his band's music, as he did onstage at last year's Granada Theater-held event.

The station is testing again

How exciting!
The station is coming in loud and clear in Tarrant County. Maybe a bit too loud.
It sounds bright, to the point of being brittle... maybe a little too compressed?
Maybe a little two-dimensional? I'd suggest backing the transmitter AM section down from 100% (just a little) and decreasing the compression somewhat.
Other than that, it's great.

Thank you.

This is opinion. Radio is more specialized today than it was in 1980 for example.

"But for the most part, the regional offerings are mostly, well, anti-regional ... "

Run that by me again.

Well, if that is what people want, that is what stations will play.
And those are the stations that advertisers want.

As someone mentioned, "The Range" plays a wide variety of music. So does KNON.

But how many people listen?

Let's face it: It's a problem when, at his band's annual Holiday Extravaganza, Polyphonic Spree frontman Tim DeLaughter, one of the region's true musical treasures, feels compelled to shout out the local sports radio juggernaut KTCK-1310 AM The Ticket and thank it as being the lone station in town to play his band's music, as he did onstage at last year's Granada Theater-held event.

And the Ticket promotes itself as "all sports, all the time."

Actually, it's "all sports, all the time ... except when we have compelling guy talk that must be aired to fulfill any FCC requirements we may have." ::)

Having said that I am eager to hear KXT tomorrow, and I hope it succeeds.

The more diversity, the better.

Sounds good, but too much compression.

Clean, bright.

Yep definitely sounds over compressed on most of the music samples playing on their loop right now. The classical especially sounds bad compressed. I see they have RDS with the time signal so I can set the clock in my car.

Well here's my Report on the NEW KXT
Audio definitely sounds crunched

They played only 1 song i liked then 3 bad songs in a row [i tuned out on the 3rd]
Announcer was pretty good but the presentation didnt really match up to the edgier
music being played.
I know this is only the first day and i will for sure give them more chances.
