Now THIS is a cool station!

I don't recognize half of the tunes on the KGSR playlist. For all I know they are B sides. hence that station must suck. Am I right?

KSGR has an iPhone app, so I listen fairly often. Last time I was in Dallas, I checked out KXT. The two stations have a lot in common, in that they explore seldom heard songs. I find that I have to be in the mood, sometimes I like something new, sometimes I don't. KTCU is a real treasure, unfortunately they have periods of time when they flirt with country music. BAD country music at that. but when you have somebody on the air that likes rock, they can be really entertaining. I struggled to get them in Plano, but with the adaptive IF in Pioneer Supertuner 3D's, they had a very viable signal.

Looked like a play list from any small rural town in the midwest to me...

I got a new car stereo for Christmas that includes an SD card slot. It can handle up to a 16gb card. So I feel my radio listening days are probably numbered. I've tried KKXT, KTCU, and some of the other, more "eclectic" stations, but nothing can match my MP3 catalog...everything from Percy Faith to Ozzy Osbourne. Tell me where else you can hear "Our Winter Love" by Bill Pursell, followed immediately by "Shadows Of The Night" by Pat Benatar?

About the only station I listen to at length any more is KPMZ, and that's only if I want to hear Larry Dixon. Most days talking drives me up the wall. And if I want to hear something "new," I'll go find my daughter - her 120gb iPod is almost full.

YOU ARE CORRECT SIR ! !

KXT.... Steadily upholding the Longstanding tradition of SUKY Music aired on Dallas area Radio Stations. Dallas is such a Zero Culturally Speaking.... Unless Sports.... is your Culture, of course! A Mile wide and in inch deep.... Yep! That's how de do it inthe Metroplex !!!!!

Yummy ! Soccer Moms and their offspring Win !

I could do without "Tiny Dancer" and "Sledgehammer" on KGSR. Great station, though. And I've enjoyed 91.7. Though I'd back off the processing a bit. One of the great things about KERA's weekend music programming has always been the extreme crispness of the sound. No forced amplitude.

The line "a mile wide and an inch deep" is funny and accurate for this town.

Its funny he posted KGSR's playlist...Lotsa chatter in Austina bout KGSR becoming too "mainstream"

John, you beat me to it. I'd like to add that the playlist above is KGSR since moving to the 93.3 frequency. The old KGSR at 107.1 was deep cuts and B-sides galore. They have definitely "mainstreamed" themselves with the addition of artists such as INXS and Sublime. It certainly isn't the GSR of old.

Jeff, I don't know what to tell you. I guess AAA is not your cup of tea. Tell you what, let's call 'em up and ask them to play some Kenny G for you. Lord knows, you've been itching for a radio rumble since The Oasis sunk.

I hear more variety (including various eclectic stations) programming in southern IN in the middle of the national forest, than I do here.

SUKY Music aired on Dallas area Radio Stations.
KKXT offers a lot of stuff I'd never hear otherwise... but very little of it appeals to me.
Part of my problem is that so much of it is extruded like sausage... there's nothing to give me 'entrance'.
I think I've liked about one in a hundred of the tunes they play. I'm not ready to condemn them; at least it's different. I find myself listening to KTCU a lot more these days, then switching to KNTU, then KCLE, then KLUV, then KZPS, then WRR, then off... Then maybe back to 91.7.
I like their concept, but not the content.

I've been listening to KXT since day one. I enjoy the eclectic playlist but prefer the local programming over the syndicated stuff.

The Acoustic Cafe is the only syndicated show I'll listen to (I play acoustic guitar) and the Thistle and Shamrock show is an immediate turn off.

@purpledevil

You don't know me... I do not like Kenny G... I like the Smooth Jazz format but it is not what I listen to 24/7. It was better than what is on 107.5 now... However, SJ was great for Sunday brunch or at night... My music is more like this...

http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/NineInchNails/Closer--2145405

so bite me. :-* :-* :-*

Hey jeff, it was a joke. Of all the posters in the D/FW boards, you were the most vocal about losing Oasis in the first place. Thus the reference to you. If you actually found what I said above as derogatory or offensive, you might want to try the decaf bro. I wasn't the one attacking you, if you'll re-read.

IMO, KXT = win! IMO, just about everything else on the dial = sux.

If you don't like KXT, don't listen. I will listen to KXT when I visit friends/family in Dallas. I have Sirius, HD, and USB in my car but sometimes I choose to listen to the radio if there is something I'm interested in. I'm definitely interested and a fan of KXT, so much so that I pledged and got a launch t-shirt.

And yes, I've also noticed and agree that KGSR's playlist has become more mainstream since the move to 93.3. I'd like the have the old KGSR back. I currently live in Austin.

On a recent drive through Texarkana on the way to Arkansas, I heard a station seg from "Whipping Post (studio version) by the Allman Brothers into "Long, Lonely Nights" by Bobby Vinton. They had almost nothing in the way of identifiers or window dressing....this went on for as long as I could hear them, which wasn't very long.

Was it KRBR 99.7 Sulphur Bluff/K265DW 100.9 Mount Pleasant "the Rebel" (http://krbrfm.com/) ?

It may have been, I've forgotten the frequency due to the sheer shock of the programming!

The other night on KRLD-FM, some bumper music was played to bring in the nest Sports segment. What r-e-a-l-l-y was pleasing was the "sound" of the music as delivered. I don't recall what rock song KRLD-FM played those 10 seconds of..... but man ! ! ! ! The whatever setting they were using to deliver the music was so fresh and invigorating.....

But alas.... here in Dallas... to hear great sounding music, and to listen to --any-- intelligent discussion of "music" on a commercial station.... you have to tune to a "Sports" station, and NOT any of the "canned" "McDonald's Menus" of 97.1, 92.5, 100.3, 102.1.....

Pretty Sad....

A MILE W-I-D-E .... and an " deep. :)
