KXTR 1660 and KXSP 590

Last Sunday, I believe I heard KXTR 1660, the Kansas City Classical station around 6:30 PM Eastern Time. I heard Classical music way under WWRU and WBCN out of Charlotte. It was very faint, almost like a whisper. The signal was in for about 15 seconds then faded. Then it came back again, still very faint, for a few seconds before disappearing once again. After one of the songs, I did hear a man say the word "Classical", then it faded. This is the first time hearing Classical on 1660. I think it was KXTR, which was a station on my wish list.

About a month ago on 590 kHz, I think I heard Omaha's KXSP. I heard mentions of "Mighty Big Sports 590" and a commercial talking about Downtown Omaha. It was a weak signal and it faded after 5 minutes or so. I heard it again a couple weeks later. The two times I received this signal it was around 12:40 AM.

Just curious: where are you DXing from?

I'm sure you were hearing KXTR. It's a fairly regular catch here in the Chicago area, and easy to identify with the longhair music.

BTW, I get into Kansas City once or twice a year on business. Great ground conductivity there, but KXTR still has a rather lousy local signal.

KXSP, on the other hand, has a monster signal. Audible daytime nearly all the way from the Colorado border to Illinois. And also a nighttime regular in and around Chicago.

Great catch. I think I can hear KXTR, too, though very weak, right now at 6:45 AM EST, underneath WQLR "The Fan" 1660 in Kalamazoo, MI. (I'm in northern VA) It sounds like I'm may be hearing an orchestra.
