KXTV Sacramento

I'm in West Sacramento I can't pick it up, I have 4 indoor antanna's Nothing

Why can't the FCC let VHF Station have better Power or move to UHF

Actually, KXTV was granted a construction permit at the end of September to add a translator on channel 36, so apparently they are aware of signal issues. All the rest of the full-power stations are on UHF channels, except KVIE which is on 9.

And the channel 10 signal already has a fairly high power output for a digital VHF station, at 28.6kW. That's actually higher than KGO-TV has on channel 7 in San Francisco (23.8kW) and twice what the two VHFs in Reno have.

The reason for lower ERP on VHFs is that on those lower frequencies signals travel farther. The only reason for higher power on UHF is to get the same coverage area as VHF.

Another possible factor is that many indoor antennas advertised as being used for digital reception are only designed for UHF reception.

Was up late tonight checking TV reception (KICU sometimes comes in here) and got KXTV on 36. It wasn’t there on Friday when I did my weekly search through all channels so it must have just gone on. Their VHF reception here (midtown Sac) has always been spotty, in fact I just relocated my antenna to get it in. Now ABC’s bug-infested programming will come in consistently, just in time for their annual Halloween cobweb. (I haven’t actually watched a show on ABC since they were on KOVR, nor CBS since they were on KXTV. Thankfully KXTV has never used a bug on any of their non-network programming.)

Where is this new channel transmitting from and does it have its own call letters? Guess this means I’ll never get KICU again, not that they were watchable in recent years. I heard KHSL in Chico moved to 36 also, they sometimes came in here when they were on 43 but alternated with channel 60 out of the Bay Area. I had KICU in my TV tuner from when they last came in but now have channel 10 and its subchannels in twice. Wondering when they’re going to activate 10-3 again, disappointed that they didn’t get the Movies! Network when KQCA dropped it in favor of H&I which was on 10-3 before. (KGO also comes in here but haven’t gotten that in a while.)
