I just a got a job at the station, and I know nothing about this station! I know it's a college radio station, but what are the ratings like? I don't see any ratings books for Monroe anywhere! Does it bring in a lot of sponsorship money? Tell me what I need to know...

Congrats on getting a job! Now, the bad news. Not many non-comms have enough audience to get ratings, so I doubt this station has any and, if they do, I doubt that they have the money to purchase Arbitron to even see the numbers, and why would they buy the book anyway?

Monroe is rated. I don't know if they are a subscriber-only market.

Sponsorships for non-comms are affinity related, either the sponsor likes the program(s), the station, or the group that owns the non-comm. If they are a school station, chances are the school subsidizes their budget. I don't know many school stations that are self-sufficient.

But, at least you'll be working at a station. Hopefully, that will lead to bigger and better things. Good luck!

Thank you very much! Also, are there any "rumors" I should know of concerning the station? Yeah, my goal is to take this experience I am going to have on air here, and then go back to Los Angeles (where I am from) and do some radio there.

KXUL is the college rock station of ULM which I thought was the student run station over there?!?!? The ratings are embargoed so unless you have someone on the inside in Monroe forget it (Besides I figure the ratings wouldn't be much anyway as it's more of a teaching station)

KEDM 90.3 is the NPR affliate in Monroe owned by ULM also .

Musicfan - don't worry about LA yet. There's going to be a lot of steps between Monroe and Los Angeles.

Wherever you go, embrace the town. Experience the town. Learn what makes each city unique and why people choose to live there. After you get to LA you might find that it's not all that and return to a city that you spent time in earlier in your life.

Wherever life takes you, there you are. Be there.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice! It's funny you say that because, that's where my main focus was - to return to L.A.. I just moved to Monroe from Los Angeles, two weeks ago. I was sort of appalled by some of the people here and the comments they would say (most not appropiate for this board) about not just me, but the people I would talk to, and the music I listen to.

But, I look forward to stepping outside of my bubble and looking around town...

Yes, KXUL is student run, I'm a freshman there. Someone else at the station was telling me how ratings for Monroe do indeed exist, but he didn't know why they were not listen. But, I am just a curious person anyway. ;D Thanks for the links to the sites!

IF you are from L.A. , basically moving to the Bible Belt of Louisiana is gonna be a really big change for you. They do get bad on here at times but at least you are welcome here.

The arbitrons are embargoed for Monroe for one, and Non Commercials are normally never listed in public ratings anyway. But with the narrowcasting the station has (aimed mainly at College students in the area and those who like those kind of bands), I wouldn't expect to see really any real numbers at all for the station. You are in a area where country, urban, and gospel is king.

Hahaha yeah, it's definitely different! I wasn't religious at all back in California, but I get calls at the station asking what my "home church" is lol. Yeah, I always heard that we don't have listeners in Monroe, but all our listeners come from out of state (which shocks me).
