KXXA

Harrison has filed to change the call letters of KTOD, Conway, to KXXA. (One would have thought the FCC would have cancelled the license by now because it has been silent more than a year.) Anybody know what he's up to?

Up to his eyes in crap as far as I am concerned.....

kxxa - weren't they the call letters at one time for what is now KSSN?
(and i think the studios were in downtown little rock on main street maybe?)
just askin'...

age...memory...short attention span...

You're right, KSSN was KXXA, an FM News/Talk back about 1976 and 1977...a bit ahead of its time. Studios were in the same building with KARK-TV at 3rd and Center (I think that's the address...it's been a long time...what day is it?), and the Program Director/News Director was none other than George J. Jennings, with Rick Brady as GM.

They were also the last call letters for the AM station in Monette in the late 80's before they went away.

Maybe, that is what's about to happen in Conway.

However, I heard from a friend in town that he is planning on moving the AM to his current FM site once he moves to the new tower site near Vilonia.

Well, first he needs to convince the FCC why they shouldn't yank the license; then he needs to file for a CP - if it will even move. Would 500 watts from the Faulkner / White county line cover anything that matters? Speaking of the FM, that should have been on the air by now. It seems like he broke ground many months ago.

Would a move to that tower require a change of a city of license as well?
Edited by southark on 07/15/05 02:19 PM.

It would unless he can figure out how 500 watts from that site city grades at least 80% of Conway.

Fellow Posters,

I think you are confusing his new site for his current FM site.
His current 92.7 site is located just off Route 65 near Pickles Gap (between Conway and Greenbrier).

His new site is over near the Faulkner / White County line.

1330 AM would move to the CURRENT site on Route 65. He currently leases from Faulkner County EMA.

We were told he was co-locating, hence why the discussion as to the lack of city-grade over Conway.

The present FM site doesn't have enough land for a ground system. The fact remains that he still has to get the AM license renewed before he can do anything. He has 3 major problems with the renewal application: (1) late-filed (2) apparent false certification that station has not been silent for more than 12 months (3) still off the air. He'll probably get away with all of that. The rest of us would face license revocation.

I don't know the guy in Conway, but I do know that he isn't real well liked. I heard from someone down here that a regular poster on this board wrote a two page letter to the broadcast license bureau chief outlining the time the station had been off and asking for the AM license to be revoked. I honestly don't know, but who on this board hates the owner of KASR/KXXA that much?

well since Mike Harrison has screwed everybody over from Little Rock to Fort Smith, and North and South of the interstate beteween there, you cant expect the man to be real well liked by anyone.
