I've noticed a station, (Cat Country), on 96.3 in Wichita Falls. When did this station start up? I didn't notice it last time I was up here in Texoma.

Interesting to note that KXXN and KZAM are both Class A's co-channel with DFW stations. The strongest contour of both stations barely covers Wichita Falls from transmitter locations NW of town past Iowa Park. I imagine both stations have a lot of grief when tropo conditions are good.

Hi KevanGC,

It appears from what I have researched this station had license Granted 06/11/2009. I hope that helps!!

It has been off and on over the years. At one point, it and co-owned KLOW 98.9 Reno TX/Paris and KTTY 105.1 New Boston TX/Texarkana were on with a contemporary Christian format as "Big Fish" (if I recall, it originated from a station in North Carolina). Later, the three were running a "hurban" format as "Max FM."

Not sure what KLOW runs now, but it looks like KXXN and KTTY still simulcast now with the "Cat Country" format from their website -- http://www.ilovecatcountry.com/

There will also be KJKB 95.5 targeting from the south once it moves from Jacksboro to Scotland TX to make way for co-owned KFWR 95.9 Mineral Wells to upgrade from a C1 to C0 to add a little more Fort Worth coverage. KJKB can't move much closer due to KMGZ 95.3 Lawton OK.

I wonder if KRZB 97.5 Archer City will ever see the light of day. It's current CP is now 13 years old. It would have good coverage of the market if it ever is constructed.

According to the authorization at http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/pubacc/Auth_Files/281950.pdf their construction permit was set to expire last year. There's no information to be found about another extension, so it appears to be dead.

As of 12-28-12 the station switched out of Christmas music. It's now billing itself as Stripper 96.3. First 5 songs I heard were classic rock followed by the Chic disco tune Dance, Dance, Dance, followed by Girls, Girls, Girls, followed by Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy".. There is a stripper theme going on here for sure. They even mentioned the "pole". Need to get them a hot sexy chick on the liners (lol). Oh wait. I just heard one.

Update from the previous post. 12 noon.

Station is now Wild 96.3. Music is pop. Let's see what happens at 1pm.

I worked for KNIN for about 7 years in the 90s. Still live in W. Falls. Sounds like you know a little about the market. Do you live here?

No, I'm from San Antonio - just on vacation around the area visiting family. I've been up here many times, though.

Has 96.3 picked up a 107.1 simulcast? A couple weeks ago I was in the area and tuned into a station on 107.1 playing KXXN's programming. In December I heard 107.1 playing Magic 95.3 in Lawton, OK.

Is this a translator who can't decide on a parent station or what?

All I know is that translator interferes with 107.3 out of Lawton.
