KXXO-extremely weak

Yup, it's amazing what you can do with voice-tracking.
 
Let me borrow this old thread to mention that I'm in Portland and can usually hear KXXO fairly well in places but lately, not at all. I was wondering if they had moved to Capital Peak. Thanks!
 
They've been weak for a long time. The signal comes in very weak even in Renton and Bellevue. Used to have a strong signal in this area.
 
If they've moved to Capitol Peak, KXXO has lost TENS OF THOUSANDS OF LISTENERS. Just to get that darn Warm Springs station into Portland. Can it get worse or what? I liked listening to KXXO and it's big signal, but now I get CHKG (STRONGER) that KXXO.

Rumor is something major happened to their high power transmitter on Rooster Rock -- they've been running at 4kw off their aux site in Tenino for months now...
 
I noticed earlier today that KXXO was getting over-ridden in parts of Bremerton, by CHKG out of Vancouver. Never picked them up here on the Kitsap Peninsula until today. (New DX catch for me!)
 
I ran into one of their engineers on Capitol Peak a little over a week ago.

Yes, KXXO is planning to move their main site to Capitol, & has a CP for the work. They haven't started construction yet.

KXXO has (had) been running from their aux site (note FCC database... only 4kW) because they had a primary power line failure at the main site. It took awhile for weather conditions & repair services to get to the problem.

Take a look at where their main tower is now. You'd be glad to have an aux site just about anywhere if you had to get to this one in the Winter.

KXXO has a very qualified Chief Engineer. I suspect they're doing the best they can right now.
 
KXXO doesn't sound full strength. Are they at Capitol Peak now? I used to get a 20dbu off of KXXO and now I get about 5.

If the are, they are probably just testing the new signal. If I remember correctly, directional signals must operate at half their licensed power for a period of time before they can fully power up. Radio Locator doesn't seem to indicate that the CP has changed to a license to cover yet. I'd wait till after the holiday to confirm for sure.
 
From what my sources say it's not a new signal being tested...they're on from the backup site.
 
From what I can tell, KXXO has lost tens of thousands of potential listeners over the past several months all because of moving to the backup site in Tenino with 4,000 watts. I can barely pick it up in some areas anymore.

I really don't think KXXO is crying over losing listeners north of Federal Way.
 
I enjoy KXXO more than I do KRWM, in my opinion. Much better playlist and not the same boring Adele, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson and Goo Goo Dolls as with KRWM.

I (mainly) use a Grundig G8. You can pick one up at Radio Shack for less than $60. The reception is incredible on the little radio!

Weak is right. The major problem for that station is their audio. Processing is non-existent. They need to get some compression on that studio microphone and increase their loudness. There is no brilliance to the signal. And, frankly, not a lot of brilliance behind their programming either.

They have spots on the air. They have a real presence in the market. They could be so much more successful. Very sad.
