KXXO Transmitter Move

Has there been any word about KXXO moving to South Mountain? Unless I'm missing something, they only have a little over 8 days left!

They're not doing too badly where they are.

I really don't think they should move to South Moutnain. Their current location off (Can't think of thier location, other than it ended with "Rock".) is doing them perfectly! They are the prime station serving the area from Seattle-Portland. The only station I can compare them to is the "Highway Stations" from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. They should remain a sort of "Super-station" from Portland to Seattle and beyond. I don't really think they have anything to gain, to move to South Mountain, other than just be another Seattle rimshot. They should remain where they are at.

Agreed. KXXO would still NEVER get the Everett area because CHKG absolutely DOMINATES from downtown Everett on up throughout northern Puget Sound. Before CHKG came on, KXXO could be heard very clearly well into Lower Mainland BC.

And there is still a pretty good size audience in SW WA. Why ruin a phenomenally good signal?

That would be "Rooster" Rock, just FYI. (Sounds like a morning drive show in Iowa!)

IMO... I really don't think they should move off of Rooster Rock. They got a monster signal where they are at! Why ruin it? They are reaching already from Seattle to Portland, and off to the coast.

Thank you for your responses to my question. What I was actually wondering though is whether or not they were building out their construction permit, which expires on August 25th.

Totally agree. I grew up just east of Marysville and I remember KXXO coming in clear as cyrstal most of the time at my folks house. Frankly, its always been a preset in my car and there's not many places that I've been in the Puget Sound area where it hasn't come in with a decent signal. I mean hell, how many stations can you say you're able to listen to pretty much uninterupted on a drive from Marysville to Ocean Shores??!! I hope they stay at Rooster Rock!

And semoochie...sorry I had to do the same thing as everyone else did on this thread but I don't know the answer to you question. I guess we'll just have to find out what happens in 8 days.

I actually had an ulterior motive for asking. There's a station in Warm Springs, Oregon, that has a construction permit to move into the Portland market and they have to wait for KXXO to move to South Mountain. Their CP expires at the same time. I had thought that they just decided not to build but there's a finalized NPRM, having nothing to do with either of these stations, that's affected, never the less. Among other things, the FCC has asked a station in Madras OR to modify its application to specify operation on 96.5, way to close to the 96.5 in Warm Springs, if the latter doesn't move to West Linn(Portland)OR on 96.3!

On August 23rd, both stations reapplied for a change in licensed facilities and requested another full 3-year term to construct. KXXO switched to Capitol Peak with 37KW, very close to the Class C minimum.

True that KXXO has a great I-5 signal all the way south to Vancouver and to the shore, but they've never monetized it. They live off Olympia and pull a small amount out of Tacoma. Trouble is they have a dead spot comin down the hill into Fife. That hurts them ratings wise.

Of course lots of things hurt them ratings-wise.

After the old CKO Vancouver signed off in 1989, KXXO signed on a week later (testing with nature sounds) And they had an EXCELLENT signal all over (well, maybe not so much in Fife.)

They started out as an Olympia station. And they were determined to STAY an Olympia station when they first came on.

My, how times have changed......

But I would sooner listen to them than a lot of the other crappy ACs that have come and gone since.......
