KYAA Monterey ?

Does anybody else here follow this station ?
I am not in the radio biz , I live in the area , there was a post about them either on this board or the AC/Standards one ( I think ) , but , as I can't find it anyway.........
They are REALLY playing an AMAZINGLY ;D large number of songs , a REALLY large playlist , espec. at the non-DJ'd times ( Which appears , specialty shows aside , to be all but morning drive ??? ??? ).........so large a playlist that you programmer dudes ;D :D might consider it to be folly.........Perhaps the biggest conceptual oddity is that they give regular rotation to " pop " records from the EARLY 1950s , Rosie Clooney and Teresa Brewer and the like , which are traditionally NOT associated with rock'n'roll...It's even in their promos !

...Really , KYAA , which is apparently locally-owned , AM-only , by an outfit which apparently owns no other stations...has a VERY , VERY , eclectic approach to oldies , especially on the " older " end of the spectrum...They play early-50s pop hits with no cultural " rock " connection , country too...R'n'r-wise , they play an amazing amount of never-singles Beatles LP cuts...And recently , they seem to be strcehing that to Elvis Presley , playing late-era Elvis LP cuts tending toward cover versions of country material ( " Susan When She Tried " " Funny How Time Slips Away " ) from those Elis LPs .

Actually, you're right on either City of License. The KYAA "Mother Ship" is 25kw @ 1200Kc licensced to Soquel. http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KYAA&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

BUT: it operates an simulcasts on an 18 watt FM translator @ 576' HAAT, Station K234AW, @ 94.7Mc. IT is licensed to Monterey.

If you're in the purple contour of the 94.7 signal map, you should be able to pick it up pretty easily. The red is the city grade signal, which should come in even in noisy office situations or cheap radios. The blue contour is "good luck charlie" fringe...you might get it ok in a good car radio or a decent Marantz reciever with no computers nearby with a good antenna.

...Thank yoou .
I just put up a LENGTHY reply about the " their playlists " portion of this tpic , and it didn't go up , and I am DEEPLY down :-[...

the " main " reply I am referring to , the playlists-oriented one , still appears to be lost :( :'(

...Really , I have heard records COMPLETELY new to me on this station  !!!!!!!!!!!
Six examples:
a song titled " No Exit " that turned out to be a post-" Live For Today " non-charted B-side by the Grass Roots...a song apparently titled " The Best Thing I Ever Had " by a kind of " swamp-pop/Southern white ( semi-white ) boy " artist...a kinda " deep/diva " soul number , sung by a black woman , titled " A Woman Will Do Wrong "...what I think may have been the original 1940s hit of " Deep In The Heart Of Texas " sung by a " 1940s band vocalist bland " kind of Caucasian male singer...Gene Autry " Back In The Saddle Again "...A 1940s radio variety show-sounding version of " Alexander's Ragtime Band " ( lots of patter/talk , not really a " straightforward " pop record approach to the number ) by Bing Crosby IIRC and Al Jolson !!!!!!!!!
Oh , and they've played vintage TV show themes ( In lower-fi " actual " TV theme versions not record versions although FTM I've heard a record-length version of the " WKRP In Cincinatti " theme several times there as well . ) as bumpers/ID pals between records too !!!!!!!!!!! ::)

I remember that Grass Roots song because I played the album absolutely to death.

I wish that station had an eastern NC translator.
