KYAA's last day today

KYAA is supposed to bite the dust as an Oldies station today and go to religious programming under new owners (possible it may simulcast 1240 for awhile)...

So, KYAA will go from 20 listeners to 0 listeners. I'm all in favor of Sacred Heart Radio wasting their money, truth be told. I wonder how many listeners the former KYA/KOIT 1260 has after several years of Sacred Heart? They have bus ads and the occasional billboard, but I'd doubt that they have enough listeners to pay for the electricity to run the place.

Very sad, seemed to have a good mix of music. Its not all bad for oldies radio though, anyone checked out the new 102.7 The Wolf up in Santa Rosa? Kind of a wierd brand for an oldies station but good tunes.

I was told it was going to happen as of yesterday but the stream still has the Oldies format on this morning...so who knows...a glitch in the takeover?

Meanwhile, in other 60s news, the old KHJ self-supporting towers were taken down yesterday. KTLA has some video of it.

Yes, KYAA is still playing music as of 3-16 at 4 pm. I heard Joe Rosa donated the station to IHR, as the FCC allows owners only 10 years to get a tax write-off on radio stations when they lose money.

I listened in to KYAA as it faded in-and-out with WOAI San Antonio. It was still oldies on St. Patricks Day(3/17/13). I should note, that here in Las Vegas, NV that when KNUU 970 AM was to flip to Immaculate Heart Radio format, that it took several months for it to happen. The station continued on the air as the news-business/financial-talk station. Then, it went dark for several weeks... Then it came back on the air as KNIH 970 AM.

I heard KYAA broadcast Catholic programming today, simulcasting KNRY.
