KYBY now on the air

According to the station website, KYBY 103.5 in Magnolia went on the air Wednesday November 12. Power is 100 watts at 26 meters.

Not able to hear it at my Cy-Fair location (too far, plus KCYB would block it) but it should be audible in Tomball and beyond along Highway 249.

It will...have a higher ERP though not as high....but power can win in a lot of cases....will take a look at the FCC site and compare 1mV contours..

A check of 103-5 at 6:00am Saturday morning yields KBPA San Marcos...as usual. No sign of KYBY or KCYB. Didn't expect either, but always worth a try. This from Vets Memorial just south of 1960.

There will be a significant clash between KCYB and KYBY in extreme NW Harris County just south of the Montgomery County border...it will affect about 15-20% of each station's extended coverage area, but not the primaries...the two are 15 miles apart, which I think is the minimum spacing. May not concern KYBY which is targeting Magnolia and Pinehurst, but KCYB seems to be going after a wider area of the NW Harris County suburbs/exurbs. And KBPA will continue to make it a three way clash on good tropo days.

In my fantasy world of an expanded FM band down to 76 MHz, there would be at least a 2 MHz section reserved for LPFM so we wouldn't have all these clashes.

In reality, LPFMs should never have been allowed....Class As should be allowed 100w to 6KW at 100m max....LPFms and xlators just add to the noise floor....and the groups should be back at 7/7/7...but that will never happen...the FCC has totally screwed the FM band.....there is a finite amount of resource there...you cannot cram 5 lbs of manure into a 2 lb sack...

Driving near 249 and Louetta this afternoon I could hear another station during KCYB signal fades...did NOT appear to be KBPA, given the music being played. Might have been KYBY, as that area would be at the extreme fringe of the station coverage area. Seemed to have some sort of newscast at 3pm. KCYB still the dominant signal at that location; wasn't able to find a parking spot in one of their "dead spots" to further investigate the possible KYBY.

UPDATE: Found a dead spot in my driveway for KCYB (which is otherwise fairly easy to hear in the car at my house) and heard the "other" station which was indeed KYBY. I'm 23 miles from their transmitter, so not bad for 100 watts. The newscasts apparently are from "Feature Story News" out of Washington, D.C. which distributes newscasts for many clients, including LPFMs.

KYBY does have a link to their audio stream on their website http://backyardradio.com/
