KYDS FCC fine

You've decided to take it out on the spokesman? You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'll be honest, I'm a lot happier to see stations getting fined for paperwork rather than content. I'm sure it's someone's job to keep track of that at El Camino, and that person ought to be doing their job.

Michael Kramer's comment following the article (scroll down on the page) is spot-on:

The San Juan School District is the Licensee of KYDS. Assigning the task of renewing their FCC license to an El Camino High School student (who is a minor) without follow through is irresponsible on the district's part.

Agreed!
BTW, I was in Sacramento listening to KYDS (yes, I actually have a preset for it), and I thought
I heard a recorded promo for an upcoming listener auction to pay for an FCC fine. I thought,
"What??" - they didn't say what the fine was for. Then I read this article yesterday...

Interesting...I hope it bodes well for KYDS...

I'm amazed that the district has been negligent with this license. I know people who have tried to help them keep things in order over the years and it was a frustrating experience for them.

I read the article as well and--as reported--it sounds negligent on the part of the school. And the school's comments seem to be "we didn't know."

You don't hand your filings over to a high school student, especially FCC renewal. Or if you wish to give the task to your students for experience/exposure, then there should be strict oversight. I was actually surprised at the lax treatment toward getting the renewal completed.

From this morning's FCC Daily Digest:

Maybe the San juan School district would like to buy 1240 KRJY from Paula Nelson and move the transmitter to the school campus! Wow! KYDS AM and FM! What a combination! If they can have that cellphone tower there why not 1240 KRJY? The tower once upon a time was in a residential neighborhood in the old days.

That would certenly boost coverage, but with this fine i doubt they could aford it
