KYKX - New studios in Longview

Looks like Access 1 is committed to keeping KYKX in Longview. There's is a new building on the SE corner of Hwy. 259 North and Henderson Lane, across and a bit north from the new Peter's Chevrolet. I've noticed this week a new tower with microwave antennas and a satellite dish have been installed behind the building, and today, the KYKX van was parked out front. They will share the building with Big Dave's BBQ.

I guess that Waller still owns the building on the north loop. I wonder what they will do with it, since KFRO-FM is now programmed out of Tyler? I suppose that Waller could keep it as a Longview sales office.

Indeed an interesting development. if all those factors add up to a new studio for KYKX. Now if KYKX could just get its programming act straight (music and personnel, one individual in particular)...........

My guess is it will make way for some enterprise that can justify the land cost, like a new restaurant, or retail store. The old studios are a prime retail location with high visibility. You can put a radio sales office almost anywhere. It would make good business sense to get all radio operations out of there.

Well at least that's something. We've all hammered KYKX for months now, and rightfully so, but Access-1 is doing the right thing here. KYKX belongs in Longview.

Also, Waller does not own the building at Loop 281 and Fourth Street. I can't remember who does, but they were leasing it from who actually owns it. I remember the person whos did own it, was not interested in selling it, because the location is excellent, and they are right. I believe when Waller bought KYKX & KFRO AM/FM, they had a ten-year lease on the building.

I agree...You can have top notch state of the art studios & the hottest location in town, but if your product is not on target....You are screwed!!!
Access One should take a long look, & listen to KYKX and make the needed changes before the fall book starts. There is some good talent in the area that are not being used to their fullest potential. Maybe Access One should look at some of their competitors in Shreveport (that are kicking their tails) and toss them a bone. You never know who might be willing to listen!

Wondering if Sunburst and Waller had leased the building from Curtis Enterprises, or if Curtis had sold it to anotther company or individual. A check of tax records at the courthouse would answer the question.

KYKX and Big Dave's sharing the building. Wonder which one owns it. If Access 1 has the deed, maybe the bar-b-que folks will trade ribs and hot links for the lease payments. If the BBQ people own it, KYKX could offer them Dru as a cook in partial payment--or would that be tantamount to writing a bad check.

The structure could be known as the Radio 'n Ribs Building.

If he does ribs like radio, they'll BOTH be out of business before you can say "lip-smackin' good".

"Short order" cook would be an appropriate title for Dru. He has the skills for it,based on his programming menu expertise.
The US agriculture department for the first time in it's history may actually shutdown a radio station due to food poisioning. They already killed off listeners.
