KYND 1520am Cypress/Houston TX On Air All Night

In this instance, it is a simple matter of perspective, SRG. I've never participated in any business dealings with him, only a few good conversations exchanged over the years that resulted in a good impression of his character on my part.

The only time I talked to Roy, was about 1980, after he signed on WKLT Kalkaska, MI. It was 3000 watts on 97.7, and I was hearing it about 75 miles South of there due to tropospheric conditions. He was very cordial.

Gentleman? Hardly.. I've heard from people who live in areas where hes owned or owned stations and gentleman is the total opposite of what people call him.

he recently got nailed for operating an fm 20 miles from the site it was suppsoed to be at

He doesn't seem to know when to declare victory and move on. He petitioned to move about 9 to 10 stations to different frequencies in order to upgrade one of his properties to a C1 in a better location. He had a CP for a Class C2 in a good location and let it expire. His technical consultant was the late David Schaberg. David was very intelligent, but pursued things that were way too complicated, invited Petitions to Deny, and took way too many years, if they succeeded at all.

My upgrade consulting plans involved no more than three built facilities and their allotments, except one time when I did the work to squeeze another more valuable allotment in, when someone Petitioned for four frequencies at the same time in closely spaced, thinly populated rural areas. I proposed alternatives. But none were on the air, or even applied for.

I was asked to do a calculation of the estimated ERP of that "pirate" you mentioned. I did it painstakingly. But the FCC came up with a different result, a much higher ERP. I'd like to see their work. My calculations were carefully documented, as to how I determined it.

I have chatted with him via emails. I told him I loved the location of his Traverse City facility as it is right on the route from that town up to Omena, where my non-fudgie family has had a place since around 1902. He invited me to stop by next time I am in the area.
