KYND Back on air?

While driving around Houston heard Chinese / Vietnamese on KYND 1520 AM. Anyone know if station was LMA or bought?

Did not check today, but a brief check yesterday morning had them still running Bill Turner’s appeal for clients.

Make sure you aren’t actually listening to KGOW 1560 and its Vietnamese format.

Can confirm that KYND is now running Vietnamese programming, as heard during a check on my morning commute. Did not hear any sort of ID in the short time I listened. Rather sleepy music and talk; wondered if it might be religious programming. Nothing found on an Internet search regarding this.

Listened again during part of my evening commute...same sleepy music and talk in Vietnamese...sounds like a bland religious format, but that is only a guess. Never heard an ID...was hoping for one around 7pm, but the transmitter was abruptly cut in the middle of programming at that time.

Despite the new format KYND still has the same problem with low audio levels...guessing they are only peaking around 60-70% modulation. Could use more robust processing.

KYND, the 25KW signal with that lackluster 5KW punch. KYND used to have a great Houston presence, but now is sorely lacking -- seems to have coincided with the departure of Bill Turner.

Dead air on KYND when checked during my Tuesday morning commute. Still dead air when checked during my evening commute. From low audio to no audio. Perhaps the Vietnamese programming was a potential client kicking the tires?

Listened to KYND this morning. Heard Vietnamese programming / or something. 9:40 started Bull Turner loop. Then dead air after one or two English songs that I did not recognize.

You heard more today than I did. Dead air again on KYND at a few quick checks during both my morning and evening commutes.

Not seeing any STA at the FCC website.

I've made more money since May than I had in the prior year at KYND and that's not saying much. I still need to sell another $5,000 a month, maybe $6,000 just to cover monthly living expenses but that's dropping monthly as I get new clients going at my new radio home. I must say I'm having a blast...great station loved by the community and exceptional talent to work with.

KYND might be running limited hours. If I recall FCC Rules, it's 2/3rds of the time 6am to 6pm Mon.- Sat. for a daytime...aka 8 hours a day. At one point I was doing 8:30 to 4:30 when told to cut expenses.

vietnamese on 1520

I heard this to, as I keep 1520 poked in on my car radio presets. Always checking to see if they are doing anything to give an indication they were operating with “public interest, convenience and necessity" in mind.

Being a barker channel for years on end doesn't seem to promote that.

This was on for a few days in early august 2019, the viet stuff, then gone and in face I have not heard the signal again since altho I thought i heard some hash or something on 1520 but didn't investigate earlier today.

What a waste.

That's interesting. Who would enforce such a thing? Have you filed a petition to deny?

I think petitions to deny can only be filed if a station has FCC paperwork that hasn't yet been granted? And it's a lot of work to do so, you have to document proof and take pictures if you have an expensive radio signal meter.

But I could be wrong.

KYND was back on the air this afternoon with the Bill Turner promo loop. Hadn’t heard anything out of them for over three weeks until today.

Heard Medical Program Early on Sunday. Figured it was Okla Station KYND signs off for. In afternoon heard George Jones, Stopped Loving Her Today." Bill's loop. Then a 1960's rock song that I forgot who did, Next Hansen, MMMbop.

That George Jones, Hansen, etc. is a CD on repeat. It times out to about 60:02. I put that together last December,I think. Maybe I should ask for royalties...after all I wasn't paid to do it and it was done at my home studio. I left KYND in May after no paycheck for way too many months.

LOL if it's your loop, Bill, that's back on KYND, have you had any of KYND's potential clients call your phone number even if you don't work there? Or was the number disconnected?
