KYND history

Just wanted some info on this station. I heard a clip of the station flipping to KKBQ in 1982 on the format change archive. Does the beautiful music format still exist?

Originally KLVL-FM ca. 1963 on 92.5 mc, licensed to Pasadena; sold by the Morales family in 1969 to become KYND. Top 3 station (12+) for over a decade with Beautiful Music. They ran the Schulke format - Stereo Radio Productions, officially. 11-13 minute matched flow segments of instrumental music, 8 commercial units per hour. Moved to 92.9 in late 1982 to accomodate a station -- I think Bay City??? -- before flipping to KKBQ.

I doubt you'll find any beautiful music stations anywhere outside of retirement communities. Closest things listed in the 'format' box on the left would be Soft/AC standards or Smooth Jazz, I guess.<P ID="signature">______________

Actually, the closest easy listening station is KLUX 89.5 in Corpus Christi. I did a little research on radio-locator.com and found that the few areas that had easy listening happen to be by the coast.

There is a station in the Corpus area, KLUX (89.5)...in the Educational part of the FM band...that plays "Beautiful Music" (amongst other things) or something very close to it. The same goes for KNCT 91.3 in Killeen...licensed to Central Texas College (which doesn't interject the "positive messages" that KLUX does).

I think that they both are pretty good stations.

Interesting! I'm headed down that way next month and will have to listen. I wonder where they get the music? Old LPs? Or is there still a syndicator?

syndicated man.
"KLUX now boasts over 240 gigabytes of digital audio storage for its library of four thousand musical selections and an equal number of announcements. While still capable of standard analog origination, the station can now record, store and deliver a digital audio stream from its hard drives to the input of the tansmitter," says the KLUX website. http://www.klux.org/

The website also says they are going to get an IBOC for digital FM transmission. This station has been around for 23 years and is still alive. I love to listen to 89.5 on the beach or in the hotel room. Nice relaxing music (as opposed to 102.9).
