KYNS SLO has an FM Translator

San Luis Obispo gets it's first FM translator on 93.7FM

This comes after KYNS flipped formats to ALL NEWS and dropped PROGRESSIVE TALK.

Thoughts?

It's a trainwreck. Low power translator with bare coverage of SLO. Lots of interference from Fresno in the North County. Worthless signal.

The AM on 1340 is, obviously, simulcasting to the translator. Content? The Amercian Radio News Network from Talk Radio Network. Horrible 24/7.

Local? Are you kidding? Three minutes of headlines from the SLO Tribune, word-for-word at :32 after each hour and repeated in a rotation until the next edition o the Trib comes out.

A perfect reason for Mapleton to save itself unused spectrum space. No numbers for KYNS and this move won't help. Shut the damn thing off, give back the license(s) and help uncrowd the most over-radioed radio dial in the US for it's population. 30 stations "home" for 232,000 people. Not much local revenue - most left over from when Bill Benica has there before he quit three weeks ago. Can't blame him.

The "progressives" are pissed, but they still had nothing but a rating in the high "1's" (Honest.) They do carry Dodgers baseball, though, the absolute only redeeming factor.

We need to be cleared of wasted stations like this and this crappy format, too. No local cohesion to speak of.

Sounds like the secretary reads the news out of the paper.

What ever happened to the days when a rating in the high 1's on a 1000 watt am running free syndication programming and baseball was considered fairly successful? :(
