KYOK & KCOH

I have noticed that KYOK/Conroe 1140 has been silent for a couple of days now. Someone's turning on and off the transmitter, but it is a dead carrier all day long until sign off. Checked both 1360 KWWJ and 1500 KANI and both of those Martin stations are normal. What has happened to KYOK?

KCOH is sure playing some great tunes now. Makes me, and I'm sure others, dread the sign off for the longtime heritage KCOH. Is there anyone here that knows the target date for KCOH to transfer ownership?

Classic example of remote operation of a transmitter without actually listening to see if anything is being broadcast. Just like what happened with KMIC last year when it had dead air all night for two weeks.

The sale was announced in late April. Usually takes about four months to go through, so I would guess the ownership change will happen around Labor Day.

You're right. Incidentally, the purchase price is $8.75M.

I listened several evenings ago and noticed that Ralph Cooper's sports call-in show wasn't on, there was a real estate show on instead; recently on a Sunday evening there was a Christian program on in the place where there was a show airing their variety music until recently. Miss them already. How long have these shows been off their airwaves?

It is now a little less than that

on Tuesdays Ralph's show is only on for 1 hour. Shad Bogeney had a real estate show the other hour. It's been this way for a while. The church shows on Sunday rotate from timt to time also.

Thanks, Dragrage. I'll be sure to have the recorder going.

Dragrage, thanks for the info. I found the Sunday night variety show and an listening to it right now. Very enjoyable. Hate to think that this is going away although they still run those "battle of the bands" announcements for as far out as August 14th during some intervals. If Houston does get another hip-hop station then I'd say that this format deserves to wind up on one of those B/PA rimshots at the very least!

.....and BTW does KCOH stream music after midnight anymore? noticed that feeds after midnight have been dead the last several times that I have tried to access it.

The Stream has a schedule setup in the encoder, but i am sure they don't want it to stop at night. The IT guy seems to have lost interest in working there. Hopefully this will get resolved if the new ownership does indeed take over July 31. They have a new IT guy standing by.

I would LOVE to see both stations return their formats to the HIP talking DJs like Skipper Lee, Daddy Deep Throat, Queen Bee and the like. And to play blues and the like. They were both iconic stations for so long.

And FYI their audiences had a big white segment of listeners, too.

The FCC approved the transfer of license back on June 4th. Hasn't Paraclete Church Ministries been handed the keys yet?

I hear that closing's been put off again until August 31st. Why do I have this feeling that the deal won't close, and the current owners will get to keep a nice fat escrow payment? Must be nice!

The Closing date is like the current economy. Constantly changing. You are correct in that the date is currently Aug 31. But who knows?

The sale price struck me as being awfully high, considering KCOH's signal, the current economy, and the overall state of the AM band in general. Buyer's remorse?

Well, i am not at liberty to confirm buyer remorse. Let's just say the current owner will be grinning from ear to ear and beyond at closing! :)

I guess we'll know something (or not) on Tuesday!

I actually hope it falls through. KCOH is a good station and would be missed.
