It's about time! It's just one more step in making this station rock! In a very smooth way of course.

I noticed this the other day. That makes FM station number two in the Valley in HD. No HD2 signal yet, but according to this article (pops), it will most likely be a traditional jazz format.

I won't be surprised if CC fires up a few more HD transmitters on their FM's in the next few months (or weeks perhaps).

Re: Geoffrey Holder

non sequitur...but related to KYOT...
Some time ago, someone had asked about the smo-o-o-th voice on KYOT, Geoffrey Holder.
Even before he did those "uncola" commercials wa-a-ay back, I knew of him as a dancer.
That was his initial career. He is now 76 years old.

chill hd2

funny, that the most listened to music genres on the internet & satellite is nowhere to be found on fm. ??

i never her am / fm anymore used in retail stores, cafes, restaurants, offices...

they're all listening to internet or satellite steams; usually a chill-type format.

all the commercial stations are using drum & bass, techno & acid-jazz for their production; but nobody sees it as a viable format. ??

well, i guess if it's taken clear channel this long to go fm digital in phoenix; that explains everything.

this could take awhile.. but i will.

i always ask what is being listened to when i'm out n about. ..perceptual research.

also, there's not as many muzak clients now. ..i think muzak should offer their programming to terrestrial & satellite radio.

anyways john, i'll put together a list of biltmore & scottdale businesses (expendable income) who now how to 'chill'.

there are several stores in biltmore fashion park that not only play chill cd's in-store, but sell the 'world beat', 'chillout', 'bossa nova' compilations.. and they're not even a music outlet.

most of the restaurants at the bfp are groovin too.

...and how many of them played KYOT before?

If you take the lesson of KYOT pre-smooth jazz to heart: just because you play it in public, it doesn't necessarily make a good radio format. Otherwise, we'd all be rocking out in our car to Rock & Roll Part II.

Radio plays familiar music. Chill isn't familiar.
______________

Radio's job is to inform the public, make money, sell commercials...by attracting the largest audience possible.

These "stores" you refer to are setting a mood...not trying to attract the lowest common denominator.

The last radio station I worked for that tried to set a mood instead of playing songs that people know, we started with a 1.9 and ended with a 0.9 before we threw in the towel.

Chew on this: the "new age" stations of the 80's that still exist today are now "Smooth Jazz" outlets where every other song is a vocal from Phil Collins, Norah Jones, and Sting.

Radio stations that try to be mood services don't make any money.
______________

Any sign of interference to 95.1 in central Phoenix where they (95.1) are shadowed by Shaw Butte and North Mountain ?? Rich
